These are the four most important questions to ask yourself if you are using or considering using a ghostwriter for anything. Does your ghostwriter understand you?

 

Every company owner has their very own code of ethics and personal beliefs as to how the business should run. This they are supposed to pass to their employees, if they have any, though their business plan. A ghostwriter should be considered an employee as well.

Does your ghostwriter understand your audience/target market?

 

If your ghostwriter doesn't understand your target market how are they going to provide value to the people you most want to reach? When it is possible you should always either share feedback from your customers with your ghostwriter, or tell them where to find it. A good ghostwriter will look this up on their own, however it simplifies their life and sometimes cuts costs when you share with them. There also may be personal sharing from customers that your writer really needs to know. This is so they can present the most important information to your audience.

Brand voice is very important. If your voice is inconsistent people won't take you seriously. If you share jokes when you publish and your writer doesn't, this detracts from your brand value, and changes your brand voice.

If you use more than one ghostwriter, do they all stick to your distinctive brand voice, and is the quality consistent?

 

Although we believe there should be no reason to use more than one writer, it is important if you do that they give the same quality, and use your brand voice. I also advise if possible, part of you the person be part of everything published.

You are the most important asset your brand has. Your list comes in second. Without you, there will be no list. People buy people, before they buy from them.

 

Where is this leading?

 

You have to understand what your audience cares about and what they do not. I have seen hundreds of websites and content created for them give their audiences information that they could care less about. One in particular is how long a company has been in business.

 

What do people care about?

 

If you miss this, and sadly many do, chances of success are highly diminished. Every potential customer wants to know, “What is in it for me?” and “How or what am I personally going to gain from doing business with you?”

 

They also want to know about you the personal brand owner.

 

This information they want in a certain order. Too few have figured out just exactly what this order is. Not everyone is going to read your whole story at once. So what should be first, does what is first include what is most important?
