For a customer journey map to be truly useful, it has to be approached from a foundation of research. It must be grounded in real, verifiable customer data.


Touch points


A touch point is any place a person can come in contact with your brand. You have to understand where and what those points are, and how effectively they function. In layman's terms you are trying to find out how well your funnel is working.




For your map to work touch points are important. You need to know more though, it has to show the relationship in it's entirety. It is important to understand where customers are on the journey. If you know they are on the way to the desired outcome, it is following the function for which it was created. The end result will be a better conversion rate, and customer retention.
