Building a brand: Search engine optimization (SEO) tips for website owners

Lisech logo

If you are a website owner chances are you are doing at least some Search engine optimization (SEO). Branding under the sub heading of marketing has to cover SEO. Customers need to understand how to be found by the largest possible target market.

Do you keep up to date with the latest changes?

As of this month the maximum number of characters for meta descriptions has changed from 160 characters to 320. This does not mean Google will even use your meta description. What it means it the new number is allowed. Relevancy is really going to matter if you want yours used. Remember the function of the meta description is to create enough interest so people searching will click through.

Relevance and value

Remember the search bots are always searching for relevance of the keywords to the content. You want to give real value within your niche. Those two things are going to help you get much closer to, if not on a page one.

social medias role in search engine optimation

Page rank

Depending on whom your audience is sometimes page one is not the best place to be. College students are taught to look on page 4. I was trained to go fifty pages back because right before the first Panda some of the best material on the internet could be found there.

Generic Disavow links file

John Mueller says “Don't waste your time.” “The are unnecessary.” It appears the search bots have a way to understand what is important and what is not.

Focus on getting traffic

As a website owner you major focus should be on getting targeted traffic. Even a no follow link can bring you traffic if you use the right anchor text. This can also lead to allowed links. You should always have a percentage of no follow links. At times given a (keyword) reason Google bots do follow them. If not and your comment relates people will visit your website coming through the no follow link.

social media's role in search engine placement

Want to know if your site is ranked mobile first?

It is simple really. Look at your log files. If the mobile search bots show 80 percent crawl rate and there is a 20 percent crawl rate by the desktop version you are ranked on mobile first. © December 19, 2017 11:30 PM CST Dennis Thorgesen, Lisech business and brand consulting, Lisech eMarketing, all rights reserved.
