With brands and self-branding identities, the focus should be narrow.  Pick one thing, learn to do it better than anyone of be one of a very few who can do what you do. I see too many marketers, some say including myself, that have too wide a focus. I see my focus as narrow. Our goal, as a company is “make people stand up and take notice of the identities (brands) we create.”

I followed Jeff Bezos advice and created a niche in which I was first.

It is not that others cannot do what we do. The majority of those who try do not work cohesively as a whole. Everyone I have met specialize in one of four areas. In reality are out of their element when they do all that we do. My group has been working together since around June of 2011, with the exception of the graphic designers. Four areas of specialization

It requires specialists in four areas to create lasting viable brands. This is even true for those who are self-branding. Many companies can do two well, very few can do a good job in three areas, and no single person or company we have met so far can do it all. There is one we are aware of that managed all four with our consulting help.


If a company doesn’t need all our services we can consult or integrate their area if expertise into their brand. Our management style is set up to allow this to happen. You only receive the services you need.

Does this make sense to you?

Even many people who are self-branding have a website or would like one. Would it make sense to have a professional website builder on staff?  If not, then one available when needed for those who need this service? One who has the ability to listen to and understand directions with the ability to carry them out?

Can you build a viable brand without a graphic designer?

Most people use pictures and/or videos in their marketing. Without graphics, they really can't tell their story professionally. This is why we have three graphic designers. These rotate from time to time, because our designers often move on to positions that are more lucrative.

My first writer is in college now learning marketing. When she graduates, if she chooses she is will trained to take over the business. For now, I have been handling all the marketing. Even though I am not college educated in this area for most of my life, I have been marketing one company or another as a partner, consultant, or business owner. Before this, I was marketing my personal brand. There is no doubt this will continue as long as I am able.

From Aug 2010 to June 2011, I was in a crash course to learn to do this online. My tutor has been in business since 1996. Tutor means paid, in total he received over $4,000 for his services. I still spend time learning daily because it is constantly changing. With this combination of online and offline marketing techniques I fit the bill better than most companies do. They don't have the offline experience so don’t understand how it interplays with an online presence. This is especially true for local brick and mortar or service business. The latest trend, which is growing strong, is the ability to text many people at the same time. We use innovative technology to make this possible.


Not everyone can create content. Most companies who are just starting never really consider they will want to create content.  It is always best to show the business from the owner’s point of view. We can start with writing however prefer starting with editing. The reason for this is twofold. In time, company owners need to know how to put words together in a way that makes sense. There hasn’t been a single company owner who needed our content services for over six months. By then they understand and can do their own editing. Search engine optimization for content is now more based on "do people read it" "do they leave comments" "do readers share" from a search engines standpoint the final question is "Where do we put it?"

Why content?

Some of my clients have been what I call hard cases. By this, I mean even when they use Google AdWords they are likely only to find a few clients a month. In most cases, those few clients will make it cost effective if the company has the marketing budget to keep the ads going. It makes better sense for these companies to create content. With content they can lead people to their website through a search engine and social media.
