Building a brand; the value of networking

Does networking have value when you are building a brand? No matter what product or service you want buyers for; networking does have value. When you are starting a company, chances are you don’t know everything you need to know to be successful.

 

How can networking help you?

 

People are always looking for value. If what you supply doesn’t fit their need you still need a way to add value to their lives. With the right networking contacts, this is fairly simple. Those who become go to people often find they do better than a direct marketer does.

Fire

 

Recently a friend had a house fire. Neighbors had called the fire department and awakened him and his wife before dawn.  His first call of course was to his insurance agent. His second call was to me. The advice I gave him was to call an insurance adjuster friend of mine. You may want to know why this advice was given. Fire coverage is part of every homeowner’s policy. Most house insurance policies also have a contents buy down or replacement clause.  The information he needed was to get the ball rolling and make sure everything damaged by smoke and fire were taken care of.  This included replacement of everything damaged in the fire.

A friend needed to talk to a lawyer. My company has a lawyer however; he doesn’t work in the area where this person needed help. After a few phone calls, a lawyer in his area was located. The information about this lawyer came from a trusted friend who used this lawyer. Now my friend has someone he can talk to about his problem.

Someone I was talking to needed a new mobile phone service. He didn’t want a long term contract or to pay a lot for the actual phone. A few phone calls took care of his problem. One person I knew had an unlocked phone for sale and another provides pay as you go phone service where he earns residual. Three people got what they needed from just a few phone calls.

 

Why networking

 

With networking, you can help others by sharing what they do. In many cases, you can help your network find buyers as they can help you find people who want and need what you do. When you build a reputation as the (go to) person who is going to fill their needs this helps your business. Without networking, this isn’t possible.

 

How do you get started?

 

There are, basically three ways to network today. The first and most important is the phone. This is followed by social media chats, then emailing those you meet on the different platforms available. If your agenda is making sales, this is not networking. What networking is about is finding out about those you contact.
