Building a brand; search engine optimization [SEO]

Search engine optimization [SEO] means helping people find your website when they use search terms. When you focus on building a brand this is important.  This is what many call free traffic, only in a lot of cases people hire professionals so it is no longer free. In the old days, a lot of this was done by submitting your website to directories. This is "old school" and no longer as effective as it once was. Other than on page search engine optimization, which simply means showing search engines what you consider your keywords. SEO as they knew it two years ago is no longer effective.

This was an email to a client this morning.

What is the most valuable backlink?

The most valuable backlink you can have today is one from a .edu extension. It should be one of the first 25 if possible. You personally should never have more than 25 backlinks you search out and create. What search engines are looking for now are those being created naturally. Natural links are now what search engines prefer.

What it shows 

 What a .edu backlink does is show search engines that you are building a respected brand in educated circles. Even a PR1 .edu backlink carries a lot of weight with most search engines. A PR10 .edu will take your website places you never dreamed possible. Respect and reputation take you a long way with search engines.

 On page optimization

Today a few changes need to be made to the website. These changes are part of the SEO process. Google can't find you for keywords unless they know what they are. This means keywords have to stand out at least one time on each page of the website.

 What Google sees as standing out

Is standing out to Google and other search engines different from standing out to the audience? Not really, only Google prefers bold, larger font size, and italics in that order. All three can be used. This SEO method should be included in all content you create.

 Keyword choices

Your keywords are health, help, and marketing. These keywords are also the keywords you should use in onsite blogs as well as for IBO press releases. The way they should be used on IBO is like so.

Use help | health | Marketing These words should always be in any content you create and make sense to your audience. Pictures in content should also be tagged. As of yet you won't have many to tag "marketing." Help and health shouldn't be hard. These are especially important in IBO press releases.


There should always be one picture on the top at the right to make it simple for visitors to share your personal brand photos to Pinterest. Other pictures can be placed anywhere in content. If you don't use the keywords in content don't use them as tags!!!!

Platform picture use

 There are two ways to make sure the pictures don't distract from the comments section. The simplest is to put the picture size you want in the drop down box that shows when you add pictures. You can resize pictures...Make sure they are very close to a percentage of the original size numbers like so; 550 now equals 225. Width and height should both be maintained to as close a ratio as possible to avoid stretching.

 Clickable links

The down side to this is without an HTML editor you can't make pictures clickable links. If it is important to you to make them clickable, there are both free and inexpensive HTML editors available. You can search for them on the search engine of your choice.

 Linking on content

Always link content created on other platforms such as IBO press releases to the website.  You can add up to two links in an article or press release. This is as long as the press releases are 550 words or more. The idea is for search engines to know the work is yours.  

 What search engines consider spam

The ones you see which have more than two links and are less than 550 words are rarely picked up by search engines....They are considered spam content. Exceptions would be writers who have a large following who share their content. To me this would mean 30 relevant comments and shares within 24 hours at the very least.

Social media optimization

 According to Matt Cutts Google's algorithm spokesperson, in today's internet world, social media optimization is every bit as important as basic onsite Search engine optimization. This is why I recommended a URL with the word health in it. Now you have to figure out how to incorporate health and marketing in your social media design.

 In closing

It is fantastic that you have great answers, which thousands can benefit from for their physical and financial well-being. You really have to stand out from the crowd for them to find you and benefit from your products. Make sure you are building your brand optimized to search engines and social media.
