First impressions matter

When you are building a brand, first impressions are going to matter. You only have one chance to make a first impression. What it the first impression others are gaining from your brand? 

As you are building

When you start, chances are you really won’t know what you are doing. This article is to give the newer online business people some information to help them. It is also a reminder to those who have been marketing for a while. 

What makes you different?

As soon as you can and if possible, you want to let others know what your business stands for. For each person/company this is going to be different. Here is an example where you will see “the best of the best.” 

First impressions

What kind of professionalism is behind you? Are you “dressed” appropriately for what you do? A ditch digger isn’t going to show up for work wearing a suit, when he goes to be interviewed he will wear clean clothes that fit his profession. If you needed a ditch, would you hire someone who showed up for an interview wearing a suit? 

Internet difference

When people meet you, chances are it will be on some type of social media. Although there have been people who have started or used avatars and seen some success this is not how most businesses will want to be seen. 

What matters to customers?

You want to set yourself apart. Even companies who use professionally created logos are a dime a dozen now. Logos are not having the impact they once did. If yours does not set you apart, you are wasting your time. 

MLM marketers and small company owners

What customers want to see is the face of the person they will be dealing with. This lets them feel they are dealing with a person who has no fear of being real. Internet marketers sometimes use their face with a logo that really does set them apart at present. 

If you meet customers

In this case, you want your picture up to date. You want there to be no question in their mind that you are who you represented yourself to be. A first impression in person is a completely different matter. 

How you represent yourself matters

Every branding chance should be used to your best advantage. Pictures and graphics presented when possible. Videos are also a great way to represent your company. They also can be used with links to your website. 


No matter where people find you they should know they are visiting the same person/company they have found if they move from media to media. If you use only logo branding, and are on Linkedin this doesn’t work for the long term.


People are going to find you for the first time in different places. This makes every way someone can find your brand a chance for a first impression. Are you building a great first impression everywhere you are online and off?
