Building a brand; Finley Surgener

What is special about this man? Finley Surgener has every attribute it takes for building a brand as a MLM'er. Instead he is building a “brick and mortar” business to be his brand. In his early working years, he worked as an electrician, a carpenter, and still does when there is a need to keep a customer safe and healthy. His main business is mold remediation. He is trained for and enjoys working crime scene clean up.



You can learn more by listening than talking. This is how Finley is able to discern the real needs of his customers. He understands by letting his customers do the talking he is able to find their real problem and a workable solution. If what he does, doesn't fill a prospective customers needs he doesn't take the job.


As there is a time for listening there is a time to talk. He doesn't have to sell. Instead, he is able to explain how he is going to fill his customers need.

Word of mouth

Finley understands the majority of his customers are going to come from word of mouth advertising. If he doesn't deliver on his promises this isn't going to happen. This said; he still pays for advertising to gain new customers with problems he can solve.


This is something that is required for successful business owners. When you truly care for and about others, it shows. Those who deal with people with a good heart have a tendency to share their good fortune.

His family matters

There are many men in his industry who spend so much time working they forget their family. Although there are times when working into his family time is necessary, Finley has chosen only to work into this time when a customer’s needs require it.

Learn from life

It takes balancing time so you don't miss out on what really matters in life. He only lets real emergencies interfere with his family life. The art of delegating to people he has trained serves him well.


To learn you have to be open to listening and learning. The value of people in his network keeps him up to date on his craft. He also understands friendships with people who are not in his profession can add value to his life. Networking also helps his find new friends who share his hobbies.


When you have an interest outside your business, which is something you enjoy it can be used as enjoyment time and as a way to increase future business. When you meet new people, while enjoying life, concentrate on life not sales. During this time, it is best to help people with problems unrelated to work. This is not to say you can't discuss what you do if the subject arises.


Finley Surgener listens more than he talks. His shyness has served him well. By listening and learning, he has gained the knowledge to be a leader in his craft. He is a rare person in my book because what he learns he retains and is able to use this information to help those he serves. The time spent networking has taken some of his shyness away. Due to this, he is gaining more customers and building a brand name in the area of crime scene cleanup for which he took special training because it is something which interests him.
