Building a brand; presentation

Presentation is one of the most important factors to consider when building a brand. What customers see is part of what they are going to use to make a buying decision. You want what you present to be a true representation of your company.

Building a brand

Before youfind people walking through your door you have to decide how you are going to present your business to the world.  Presentation is marketing. The idea is; you want to be marketing your company first then your product.


Once you have the idea and concept, who is your audience going to be? What information will they be looking for before they buy your product? With this information,you will now be able to target them.

Marketing or advertising

If you are marketing a product, this is advertising. If you are advertising your company, this is branding. Even when you are advertising your product, your brand name should be included in the process.

What is your brand?

It is your identity; it is the visual representation of your company. This includes the signage in front of your store. Your business card, uniforms if you use them, Stationary, as well as any physical place a prospective client is going to see part of your company.

How important is your identity?

There are companies, which over a period of years have spent millions of dollars to make sure they are visually represented in a way that draws customers to them.

How important is your image?

Image is how others perceive your company. This based on their dealings with you. Your phone manners, employee relations with customers, and all correspondence is going to determine what this image is.

Business plan

All this needs to be part of your business plan. For one-person operations as a reminder of what you decided to stand for when you started your company. Companies who have employees will have this available for every employee to learn what your company ethics are.

It does not make sense

Advertising a product without a brand does not make sense. Even those who are self-branding have a brand in place. A brand is what sets you apart from thousands if not millions of others who have something to sell.


What the world sees of your company is the most important part of building your brand. Your image and identity are going to be a deciding factor for those choosing to do business with you. Build your reputation strong.
