Building a brand; procrastination

When we refer to building a brand this includes existing
brands at times. In this case, it is to what we are referring. When you look at
companies like Pepsi® and Wal Mart® you will not find them procrastinating.
Granted they have staff whose only job is to work their social media.

Small companies

When you are, a one-person operation or even a small group there is a tendency to believe something is not worth your time, or you believe you cannot find time. There will be times when you find you are putting off what you should be doing now. This is not what you want to be doing as you are building your company.

Who does this hurt?

It only hurts your company. A potential customer can always
find someone with the same or a similar product or service. Very few companies
stand alone in what they offer.

When you call a company especially a small one only to get
an answering machine how do you feel? Would you rather put on hold than not
have you call answered? Think like yourself; be your own customer, what does
your business feel like to you? It is going to feel the same to your potential

How to handle it

Get back to people who leave messages as soon as possible. Flip
between calls if you have to when someone is on hold. If you cannot get to
someone on the line right away, ask if you can call back. If people know you care,
they will wait for your call. Make sure not to procrastinate making that return

Do not take on more than you can handle

We each know our limits. When you make your plans keep them
simple. Make sure they are barely beyond what you are comfortable with. This
will give you the incentive you need to keep expanding your comfort zone.

Make a list

If you have a list sitting in front of you either on the
computer or on paper, you are more likely to follow it. Do not call it a “to do”
list. Although you need to do what is on the list the phycology works better if
it is an “advance my business list.”

Put off until tomorrow

If you put off until tomorrow what you need to be doing today you will find tomorrow never comes. Your business will be going nowhere and you will not have to wonder why. Nothing will ruin a brand you are building faster than procrastination

A few tips

If you would like a few tips on how to avoid procrastination this article will give you a few ideas. We didn't find this until after we had posted.  It is written by Ron Bagley.

Why did we write this article?

Someone here found out that putting off until tomorrow does
not pay. There was not time to do what needed done. This is because the time
was spent on something not important to advancing the business.
