Building a brand; branding tips, bumps in the road?

Bumps in the road are part of building every brand. Branding tips and the combination of brand/branding are searched terms. Let’s see if it is possible to make the keywords relate.

Focus

The focus of this article is mistakes/failures and how it relates to successful people. For today’s example we will take a look over Ed’s shoulder as he learns internet marketing. He is coming up on his second year anniversary as an internet businessperson.

Meet Ed

A little over three years ago Ed became an unhappy man. After working for the state he lived in for 19 years he was let go. He thought with his experience it would be no problem finding a new job. After six months of searching he accepted a private sector job which paid half what he had been earning.

Keeps looking

This required changes in his life and lifestyle. He wants to return to the lifestyle he grew accustomed to so even though he has a job he keeps looking for something closer to what he had been earning. Friends and family become a reason to remain in his geographical area.

Decisions

After six months of looking Ed hasn’t found anything. Ed has a friend named Sam. He knows Sam makes a good living. Sam never drives off to work and this has Ed wondering how Sam seems to have everything yet no one has seen Sam work. The only way to find out is ask so Ed does.

Sam’s story

When he and Ed sit down to talk this is what Ed hears.

“I played football in high school. My coaches said I really had potential. Although I was not considered bright I was offered a college scholarship if I played football for the college. During my first year an accident ended my football career and my scholarship.” This was my first big bump in the road.

When Sam returned home

“I couldn’t find a ‘regular job’ my body wouldn’t hold up to standing for long periods or heavy lifting. The only thing left to try was working from home. A college English class was the only thing which helped.”

Ed’s question

What do you do to earn a living?

“I now earn selling my own digital product. My internet career didn’t start this way. It took years of trial and error to get where I am now. With every minor failure I learned something new which made the next attempt more successful. “

Ed’s next question

Then it is possible to earn using strictly the internet?

Sam’s answers yes if you are not afraid to talk to people. You have to be willing to learn from someone who has experience. No one earns without failure. Don’t let small failures and mistakes keep you from moving forward. It is important to understand earning on the internet is really not that different than having a job. It requires effort on your part. At some point it is also going to a monetary investment.

How do I get started?

The first thing you have to do is start building a brand. This can be personal or company. You want those who find you to relate to you personally first. You will find that internet marketing starts with relationship marketing.

Your goal even before business

If your goal is to create a business; you want to conduct yourself in a professional manner. Every post you make is going to be on the internet for a long time. Even so you will make mistakes. In the long run those mistakes aren’t going to hurt you as long as you don’t keep repeating them. Learn from every one you make.

How is this accomplished?

Sam: “here are my branding tips.” Start with social media. You don’t even have to have a product or service to start. When you have started creating posts which spur interaction you can start learning about what product or service you want others to buy from you. Make sure it fits some need of those you are in contact with.

Start with a design and a plan

Once you know what your product or service is going to be;start planning. First make sure you have the legalities taken care of. Redesign your social media to your business. Every person who becomes a buyer does so based on emotion. You want the colors you choose as well as words to speak the language which will touch the emotion you want potential customers you want your audience feeling.
