Building your brand; the value of social media

Social media (SM) will add value when you are building your brand. In a recent survey done by Manta 26 percent of the businesses they talked to plan on investing more in social media, marketing, and advertising this quarter. If you paid attention you saw that each area was mentioned separately. What are your goals with SM? If you are only trying to generate leads you are using SM the wrong way. SM has much more value to your business. Very little of your posts should be used with the intent of gaining new prospects or customers by using links to your website or business. Consider this What are those who spend time on social media looking for? Our belief, and we are not alone, is that very few are looking for your business link. Those who are and understand anything about how SM works will be able to find them on your profile or page. So then What are they looking for? Those who visit social media are looking for entertainment first. Whether they have just put hours in at work, spent most of the day working online, or are unemployed and looking for work, their goal with social media is the same. To get away from the pressures they face each day. What does this mean? If you can provide entertainment they are going to spend time looking at it, if it continues you will gain followers thus creating a larger audience for when you do market. Something entertaining they will also share which increases your viral reach. What is next? Once you have them entertained and coming back give them information about your product or service. You also want to give them information they can put to use in their lives. As much as possible this should have entertainment value. Inspiration For each business model this will work different. Mercedes® uses it to inspire those who will ultimately buy their product to create the earning ability to pay. Only you can decide what and how to use inspiration for your business. When should I use links to my business? You are never going to want to use your links in every post. There are some people who are so new to the internet they haven’t learned to check profiles. For those you need to have the link in your posts. If you have enough posts which entertain these visitors will find them. Do you have a plan? Those who are succeeding best with their social media have a plan. Some set it up months in advance. This is sometimes done with programs which will post at the requested time. Others set it up weekly. Find a system that works for you other than deciding daily what to post and use it. If you have a very small budget you can set your system up on programs on your computer. If you use this method make sure to have backup either online or off. Practice makes perfect What you are doing is creating a marketing plan. You want to have the next set up before you run out of material for the first. Once you have created the first and each additional one it will become simpler. Each time you should check the effectiveness of your campaigns before you start the next. It is recommended to check peaks in website or blog traffic and use a short URL which allows tracking. Self or created brand Exposure is important; you have no brand personal or otherwise if you aren’t found by people interested in your product or service. In many cases people aren’t going to be interested in yours until you give them a reason to follow you.
