Building your brand; focus on sustainability

To extend your reach when you are building your brand you want to think differently than your competition. Two focus areas every business must consider are reach and sustainability. If you can't maintain your reach it is better not to go that far.

Why is this important?

In today's internet world the way most people are reaching their audience is though social media. This gives them the opportunity to build relationships as they are finding new customers.

The three basic ones they use are

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Linked in

These are simple to maintain as they each recommend only two posts a day. Each do require a certain amount of time daily as part of their use is for building relationships. You can't build relationships if your not there. What you do have to be careful not to let happen is to get addicted to them.

Avoid improper reach

Whether you are personal branding or self branding the fact remains you are a brand. The colors you use as well as fonts as much as possible should remain the same. Colors should be based on the emotion you want the visitor to feel. We have yet to see a bank use purple or pink. The reason is the emotion attached to these colors are not what a bank wants you to feel.

The colors you choose as well as the fonts are supposed to follow you everywhere. They are what make you who you are. They also let people know they are in the right place.

The basics are mostly standard. Blue, black and white abound for a reason.

Newcomers

We are talking about reach so you don't have to stay with just the three basics. Don't reach too far though because you won't be able to sustain them. They can add value for your business.

Google +

The first and most important things those who have a website gain is (as long as you add the link) a PR10 backlink. For those who don't know PR1 is the lowest, PR10 is the highest, most desirable link you can have. The way they have the system set up those who become part of your circles will find your work on the page one they find when searching your keywords. For those who don't know there are no static page ones.

Pinterest

We are sure you have heard the phrase “A picture is worth a thousand words.” Pinterest uses this concept and it works well. People who visit to look at pictures are buying at a rate much higher than those of Facebook. With this in mind People are looking at videos often. Many times they will choose a video over the written word. It is simpler to remember when a person sees and hears. If this is not part of your plan it should be.

Powerpoint presentations

Many people are using powerpoints as ways to advertise their business. They are fairly simple and can be effective if properly put together. There are now places online where they can be posted.

Sustainability

Whatever choices you make remember social media or other ways of reaching your audience have to be used frequently. Unused social media accounts do more damage than good.
