What is an affirmation and what is the purpose? Can they really be harmful?
Affirmations are “a statement or proposition that is declared to be true” according to dictionary.com.
Study that definition for a second.
If you see what I see, I believe affirmations are nice but they are not the whole answer and they could also be harmful.
Harmful??? Ron what are you talking about? What planet are you on?
Yes, Harmful.
Notice in the definition that it says “declared to be true”. Affirmations are the same as “fake it until you make it”.
These thoughts can be dangerous because the key word is “true”. In other words you have to believe it.
I heard Mike Losier (law of attraction) use the example of looking in the mirror. You don’t like what you see, but since you are a good student, you practice your affirmations. You look that mirror straight on and you say, “You are beautiful. You are gorgeous. You are sexy.” You continue to say this to yourself daily. The challenge is, you have an inner voice that says, “You are lying. You are fat and out of shape.” So now you are more depressed than you were before you started the affirmations.
What Mike recommends and I would agree is to say, “I am in the process of…” Why is that important? Aren’t you in the process? This statement is believable and you won’t create negative thoughts within you. See the negative thoughts will hold you back.
Tony Robbins used another example. Looking at the weeds in your garden and saying, “There are no weeds. There are no weeds”. The weeds will eat up your garden. Recognize you got weeds and pull them out.
Bottom line. Make sure if you are using affirmations, you believe them. You may have to re-word your statements.
It ain’t right. It ain’t wrong. It’s just my opinion.
