6 Fun Places to See in Tokyo

One can make many trips to Tokyo, Japan and only scratch the surface of what the amazing city has to offer tourists. Below are some fun places to check out during your next trip to Tokyo.

Tsukiji Market

The Tsukiji Market is arguably the most famous fish market in the world. Travelers from across the globe add this unique spot to their lists – both sushi lovers and those who are just curious. If you want to witness a tuna auction, the best time to visit is in the early morning. Keep in mind that although entrance is free, there are limited spaces and the queue can begin as early as 3 am.

Tokyo Imperial Palace Area

Imperial Palace, Tokyo

Near Tokyo Station, you will find a shopping area that is popular among tourists. It features lovely cafes and a number of department stores, which are great for sitting and people watching. While visiting the old twentieth century Tokyo Station building, stop in the souvenir shop for some sweets. From here you can walk over to the Tokyo Imperial Palace, which was built on the site of the old Edo Castle. The palace, which is surrounded by a moat, was built in the 1960s and houses the Japanese royal family. The bridges over the moat are enjoyable to cross and make for great Instagram photos to share.

Akihabara Tokyo

Akihabara is a little north of Tokyo Station. The Akihabara is opposite of the Tokyo Imperial Palace, which is a look into the history and traditions of Japanese culture. Akihabara is known as an electric town, displaying bright lights of the future. If you want to check out anything anime or manga related, this is the place to stop.

Shibuya crossing, Tokyo

Shibuya is one of the most iconic places in Tokyo. The intersection at Shibuya has become famous after its feature in films such as Lost in Translation and The Fast and the Furious. Shibuya Crossing is representative of Japan in many ways and for many tourists, a trip to Tokyo is simply incomplete without crossing this road. Additionally, those familiar with the story of Hachiko (the dog who came to Shibuya Station daily waiting for his deceased master) should stop to see Hachiko’s statue sitting in front of the station.

Yebisu Beer Brewery

Learn about the history of Yebisu beer brewing in Japan while enjoying a beer on a tour of the brewery! You will learn interesting facts such as how a bottle of beer used to cost more than a full meal while tasting beers. If you are not into beer, you can stop at the bar to order drinks that are more to your liking.

Roppongi Hills

Mori Tower, Roppongi Hills

Roppongi Hills were built with the vision of it being a city contained within a city, where people can live, work and shop without having to travel far. The area is truly fascinating to visit, with its own museums, gardens, restaurants, luxury shopping and more.
