To be old and wise, you must first be young and stupid

To be old and wise, you must first be young and stupid

It gets to a place in our lives when looking back at our youth, we sometimes ask the question, was that even me, way back there? It seem what we see, looking back when we were young, is a completely different person.

As a young person, we made silly mistakes, that at an older age most of us would not make. Experience is the best teacher, so the wise people said. This statement holds a lot of truth for the older generation, who went through the whole process of making mistakes and learning.

There comes a time in your life, when you have to let go of the things you used to do at a younger age, and get "more serious about life". This is because as you age, you have to face the reality of creating a life for yourself. You are "grown up", and you will have to handle a lot of responsibilities.

Responsibilities are not to be taken lightly, and many people will agree with that. You may lose a friend here and there, as you set out to create a life for yourself, getting away from some of the foolish things you did in your younger years.

You start planning your life, creating goals for the achievement of the life you dream of. In the process, you will have to make some hard decisions. The party lifestyle may not fit your new life anymore, and as you meet that special person in your life, new plans have to be made.

In the transition process you will make a lot of mistakes, or wrong decisions, but that is all part of the "growing up" process, if you will. You learn from every mistake, and every wrong decision you make. You become a wiser, and a better person, stronger and more independent.

The wisdom gained out of living cannot be compared to anything else, because this wisdom is gained first hand, and from tough lessons learned.

As you age, do not look back and regret the mistakes you made, take them as lessons. Do not look at your youth as wasted time. Maintain the youthful exuberance throughout your life, and never let go of your passion for living.

I always said that I will never grow up, and I will maintain that attitude forever, because it keeps that spark alive, that so many people lose as they get older. Building a life is serious business, or so they say, but living life should be fun.
