Shame is pride's cloak

Shame is pride's cloak

In the modern world of instant gratification, also fueled by the pressure to impress others, some people have developed an uncanny way of boasting of their achievements or flaunting their wealth.

This breed of otherwise modern and sophisticated persons 'mask' their low self-esteem by downplaying their success with the hope of someone noticing it, and praising them for their humility.

This false pride is used to appear humble, probably to gain attention. True humility does not need or want any attention.

Let's take an example, you've probably come across someone who never accepts compliments sincerely or doesn't take credit for a job well-done without adding the phrase, "It's nothing, in fact, anyone could have pulled that off easily."

If you look closely, that is the most subtle trait of unhealthy pride, low self-esteem or lack of confidence. If not that, then it is very likely the person thinks your not good enough to appreciate their success, and so they are trying to make it look meaningless in your eyes.

So, the next time you do something outstanding, or achieve a certain level of success, don't send the wrong signal. Be confident enough to take credit without watering down your efforts. Be confident, be proud of your accomplishments, and stand tall among your peers!
