You can't shake hands with a clenched fist

You can't shake hands with a clenched fist

As in times past, wars, riots and crimes seem to continue to mar our generation. It becomes more and more important that we find the path of peace and friendship, that can be followed by people within or surroundings and beyond.

To achieve peace and gain trust in each other, an open mind and open hands are essential. We cannot shake hands with a clenched fist, because it is a clear sign of anger that show our preparedness to fight. We must overcome our anger. If we want others to come to us in peace, we have to be peaceful.

An old Christian saying goes, "There never was an angry man that thought his anger unjust". When we are seething with anger, we lose touch with reason and our senses.

With this kind of anger simmering inside, our rational thinking is muted and more often than not, we end up hurting ourselves. We need to pay attention to what Buddha has to say about anger, "Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned."

The only way we as human beings can advance and attain inner peace, is by letting go of anger and embracing love. We have to put LOVE at the center of our being. Gandhi said, "it is the law of love that rules mankind."

Let us open our hands and embrace the peace and love within, and share it with our family and friends. Like the pebble we throw into the calm water, the ripples of peace and love will reach way beyond what we think is possible.
