...Drink To Your Health

Do you really get enough water each day?

Many of us find it most difficult to drink enough water in a given day. Its in my car, I carry a water bottle and I still forget to drink enough water.

But then, how important is water to our health and how much do we need?

Health professionals tell us we need water for a variety of reasons:

    1.  Aids in digestion and proper bowel function

    2.  Allows body cells to grow, reproduce and survive

    3.  Regulates body temperature

    4.  Flushes and lubricates the internal organs

    5.  Shock absorber for the brain and spine

    6.  Improves skin appearance

    7.  Energizes the muscles

    8.  Aids with weight loss

    9.  ...and several others

How much we need varies among individuals but generally one needs the equivalent (in ounces) one half of the weight. For example, if your weight is 180 pounds, you would need 90 ounces of water per day.

Seventy percent of the human body is water. The blood is composed of 90 percent water. Seventy-five percent of the brain is water. It is easy to see how critical water is to one's health.

When we don't get sufficient water intake we risk becoming dehydrated, which 75 percent of Americans suffer. Whenever we become thristy, the process of dehydration has already begun.

A landmark study in 1990 found that dehydration is one of the most common risk factors for causing kidney stones.
