As entrepeneurs one might as, aren't you referring to giving as in "lost leaders" where a business may give an item away to attract atention or entice someone to try a product?

No. Not at all. I'm referring to the case where the  marketer's intent is to enhance the life of another; giving motivated by wanting to put the other person in the better position with no strings attached.Giving because one has an affinity for another human being and derive satisfaction from the act of giving.

To some this might sound revolutionary and to others it might sound evolutionary, but it's the kind of thinking that keeps one from seeing a potential customer or affiliate as another check mark on their financial check list.

Beware that this kind of thinking has both benefits and costs.

One benefit is that it frees one from being so tightly focused on making a dollar that one might fail to see the real opportunity with a particular prospect.

It depressurizes the relationship between marketer and prospect and minimizes fear in the prospect's mind, creating a favorable climate in which to do business.

Oh Yes, The Costs...

The most obvious is that whatever is being given away must be paid for. That requires having the capital to finance this way of doing business.

The other might criticism that might come from family and friends who think you are out of your mind. (Or drinking too much coolade)

I salute one company, OURGV (Our Global Vision) for giving their affiliates the tools to do this kind of marketing.
