Are you legal, honest and truthful in your online marketing?

As entrepreneurs we need to be aware of the laws and regulations that govern the online marketing industry. We must also be aware that these laws my vary between states.

Of the international market, England has what is called CAP Codes which provide guidelines for approved online marketing practices for the entrepreneur. It is important we understand national and international requirements.

The most critical issue seems to be in the area of privacy or the collection of private information about our customers and potential customers.

What are some things we can do?

Although most are intuitive and "common sense" practices. We can:

1. Avoid exaggerating our offers

2. Refrain from offering guaranteed income. (Use disclaimers)

3. Refrain from making misleading offers

4. Use the "Opt-In" form on our websites when it comes to solicting leads. (Normally we do this for new leads, but the state of California requires it for customers.)

For Affiliate Online Marketers this is less of a problem since Capture Lead Pages may already have their opt-in form installed. Those using their own custom made web pages should not overlook this requirement.

For more information on this subject one might seek guidance from the Federal Trade Commission or the Direct Marketing Association and the other related associations.
