In His Image, Part 2

Are we really made in the image of God?

This is quite a legitimate question. If one holds that God is Holy, Righteous, and loves us with unconditional Love, it could be difficult to reconcile the character of this God with the behavior of men. In our broken-ness we are capable of being quite cruel to one another. We see it in our current events in America and we see it in world news from abroad.

Here is the rub…

The first man Adam was made in the image of God. Because he disobeyed God he received precisely what God said would happen if Adam disobeyed Him: separated from God Spiritually. He no longer enjoyed the intimate fellowship and communion with God as before. Rather, Adam is now under the influence of the enemy, satan. From Adam all descending generations inherited the nature of Adam. (A fallen nature)

As a result of this, man is more disposed to evil rather than to good. We note that small children do not need to be taught to be selfish, rebellious or outright mean. No one has to teach a child their first “no”. They are born with it although we still see them as our angels. (And they are at times.)

Nevertheless we are made in His Image

For that image to play out in every day behavior, one of two things must happen. We must either be trained to behave godly or converted Spiritually by the power of the Holy Spirit. This process continues until we are transformed into the image of His Son.
