Do You Know Your Purpose

How many times have you heard some people say "...if I only knew my purpose."

Can you imagine getting in your car and starting out on a journey not knowing where you are going? which direction would you begin? North, South? It really wouldn't matter, would it? Someone once said that if we don't know where we are going, any route will take us there.

My next question is, is it possible to know one's purpose?

I would suggest that some may agree its possible but disagree on the method of determining one's purpose. For example, because a child excels in athletics, is this child destined to be an athlete? Some believe that whatever we are good at determines our purpose.

Well Then, Where do we find the answer?

Let's start at the beginning. The Bible teaches we are made in God's image and His likeness. That should give clues to focus our inquiry. Therefore we must begin with the knowledge of God. Choosing to examine one aspect of God, let's start with: God is Love. This Love (agape) always puts the other person in the better position. Love is who God is, Love is what He does. He proved that Love on Calvary when He sacrificed His Son for us. " Greater Love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." (John 15:13)

Also, at the beginning:

God blessed man and told man to be fruitful and multiply. The idea here was for man to populate the earth with as a people who reflects the Love and other attributes of God. We learn that this plan was interrupted when Adam disobeyed God. (Interrupted, not abandoned)

I conclude with the short answer to the question

We know we are living in our purpose when we derive PEACE, JOY POWER and a sense of contentment in our life experiences. To get to this point in our lives, the breach that occurred IN THE BEGINNING must be repaired. How does this happen? It happens when we receive and embrace with faith the finished work that was done on Calvary's Cross. As a result, we live out of a new nature; a nature that aligns with the nature of God. A nature that informs our purpose and answers the question. (The bird flies because it is a bird.)
