Whatever You Are, Be a Good One

"Whatever You Are, be a Good One." -Abraham Lincoln-

The challenge is to know what or who you are. How can we when as little children we are taught to be like dad, or mom; like uncle Steve or Aunt Carol. Or what about our childhood heroes or heroines? Then how do I get to know this unique creation, made in the image and likeness of God?

What are the clues?
Remember when you were a child and loved to write or draw pictures on note pads or the wall. (Whichever were closer) Or maybe you enjoyed singing around the house or showing out in front of visitors when they came. I remember frequently working on my mother's electric iron or toaster, even if it were not broken. (But I was able to fix a lot of things around the house.)

What Should Parents Do?
The Bible teaches that a parent should point their children in a Godly direction and without provocation. (We shouldn't insist on their becoming what we want them to become when they clearly are not suited for the role or even rebellious.) Sometimes we attempt to live our lives through them. Or we try to get them to be what we wnated to be. Some parents expose their children to many opportunities and allow them to gravitate to a particular field based on their "gifting" or talents.

WHY NOT START AT THE BEGINNING?
The first step is to get to know who we are. Begin by hearing what God says about us and becoming to know that He loves us unconditionally. "He wills that ALL men be saved and come to the knowledge of Truth." It is the truth that we know that sets us free. When we are free, we see ourselves and others differently. We become more objective and see things for what they are.
