Being in the coffee business I constantly scan the landscape looking for info that impact the coffee market. Posted in the Huffington Post was an article that caught my attention. This article cited NINE (9)  "Amazing Benefits" of coffee. The article was written by Kristin Kirkpatrick, M.S., R.D., L.D., posted June 4, 2013.

Given that coffee is the number two beverage drank around the world, this news should  make a significant impact on coffee drinkers. She cited:

NO. 1..."It may lower the risk of death." She said coffee tends to benefit those who suffer from such chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes

No.2..."It helps make the reproductive system happy. " A 2011 study found that men who consumed six or more cups a day reduced their risk of prostate cancer by 20%.

No. 3..."It can help lower the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes."  Another study in 2012 found that a compound in coffee helped to block a substance in the body called amyloid polypeptide which plays a role in the development of diabetes.

No.4 ..."It helps protect the brian." Kristi Kirkpatrick indicated that coffee drinkers are more likely to resist the development of dementia or Alzheimers disease.

No.5..."It could help you recover from colon surgery."  One study found that coffee consumption helped to speed recovery compared to drinking water.

No. 6... "Its great for your skin." Drinking coffee may help to ward off the most diagnosed form of skin cancer.

No.7..."It may help to reduce the risk of oral cancer." A recent large study found that individuals who drank four or more cups of coffee per day had a 50% less chance of death from oral cancer.

No.8..."It may help you to strengthen your muscles...and your DNA." The most interesting thing was that the positive changes could be seen in a relatively short period of time.

No. 9..." The fact is, due to its worldwide popularity, coffee is probably the greatest source of antioxidants in the global diet. And while having lots of it is not recommended for everybody, for some of us, it just may be the superfood of the century.
