How to Create Socially Engaging Content

There is content and then there is socially ENGAGING content. Big difference and many people lose their readers simply because they lack the sort of social engagement that I am going to be discussing in this lesson.

To put things into perspective, when was the last time you engaged in a conversation? Think about it. Did you phone a friend? Did you order something from your local coffee shop? Or did you talk business with someone at work?

Now, think of why the conversation worked? You created a conversation. You asked questions, you talked in a way that was interesting and hip, and chances are you may have had a moment or two of humour.

Guess what people like to read online...

The exact same sort of “conversational speak”. People like to read content that is interactive and feels as though it is engaging with them personally, so that is going to be one of our major focuses going forward.

Task 1: Create a Socially Engaging Post

Today your task is going to be quite straight forward, to create a new post on your site about any theme or topic that you like. It could be a keyword that you have researched or topic relevant to your site.

Your focus is going to be on creating content that is socially engaging. Here are the core "focal" points that you should be taking into consideration:

  • Captivating Headline
  • Image Relevance
  • Conversational Speak
  • Helpful and focus on “showing” stuff versus telling
  • Ask for feedback, Ask to share
  • Make it FUN to read

And remember, be natural. Do not try to make your content perfect, you will drive yourself crazy. You will be able to get feedback on your new post in the third task.

Task 2: Share Your New Blog Post Socially

Your next task is to share your post (via your social buttons on your actual page) on the following social channels:

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Google+

If you are part of other social networks or you want to send the page to your friends and family via an email, you should do that as well.

Remember when you share, it is always a good idea to ask people to leave their feedback, comments or opinions on your website. This can lead to engagement and ongoing dialogue, which makes your content experience a better one (and Google also likes this).

Task 3: Add Your New Post to the Following Thread

Your last task is going to be to add your post that you have just created to the following thread. Ask for feedback and make sure you take part in offering your feedback on other people’s websites as well. :)

...and don't be shy on helping others out with feedback on their site. Input from others is quite helpful and it will make this lesson very interactive if you offer your unique insight.
