This was me on Tuesday. Rather than sit in extreme discomfort, I drank wine. Mindfulness can be uncomfortable, like really uncomfortable. Mindfulness is not all rainbows and unicorns. It is about being fully present as this human that I am. That includes all the very real and challenging experiences we have as humans.

Last year when my dog died I made a decision to be present through it all. Present with the pain. I processed the event as it happened. I moved in and out of all I felt, thought and experienced. Even though it was extremely difficult I found that I didn’t carry the event after it was over. I was able to let go and move on. It was the healthiest death I have ever been through.

Tuesday was another story I wanted to feel lighter and numb. I was struggling to process the information I was told about a family member. I was deeply sad and grieving. I now needed to process the things I did not allow myself to at that moment. So I gave myself some time on Wednesday to do just that. I stayed present and I cried. After a few conversations and lots of introspection I felt lighter and comfort returned to me.

Life is not always easy and it’s rarely simple. We face difficult things and we don’t always want to face them head on. Mindfulness allows us to be with what is. Whatever it is. That doesn’t mean that it’s comfortable. Especially if you have been living your life hiding or if your automatics are to deny or avoid.

Always do your best is the fourth agreement from don Miguel Ruiz best selling book The Four Agreements. That came to mind on Wednesday and became my mantra for the day! I did my best on Tuesday when I hid and drank. I also did my best on Wednesday when I cried, processed and talked my way through my pain. So my message for you today is for you to just do your best beautiful, you got this!'

There are a lot of things you have to do in life that you don’t enjoy. There are also a lot of things you don’t have to do in life that you don’t enjoy. So why are you doing them? Why are you putting yourself through this? Are you avoiding conflict? It’s time to choose more of what makes you feel happy.?

Life is not always easy and everyone has hard days. Using mindfulness we can become more aware of what we spend our time on. Mindfulness allows us to become the observer of ourselves. It opens up unlimited possibilities for change. While it is important to process difficult experiences in our lives it is also important to focus on the things we enjoy.

Mindfulness can open up opportunities for you to see what you are choosing that you don’t enjoy. Why are you doing this? Why are you choosing these things? Are you just procrastinating? Are you not wanting to speak up? Or are you just repeating old habits that you’ve never questioned?

Set your intention today to eliminate the things in your life that you’re not enjoying. It may take some time and it may not happen overnight but that’s OK. As you begin to remove these things from your life you will notice a lightness that begins to develop. It becomes easier to focus on the things that you do enjoy as they fill up more and more of your time.

Your life is yours to live. Hard days will come and go but how you choose to live your moments will set the tone for your life. Consciously choosing to invite more things you enjoy into your life can lead to you finding daily happiness in a multitude of ways. No matter what you face these moments of bliss will transform your life into something you enjoy and cherish.

How do you start your day? Creating mindful practices can dramatically increase your enjoyment and reduce your stress. Most often though people do not prioritize their mental health. Which results in busy days leading to chaotic lives and a disconnect from those around them.?

If you hit the ground running each morning and don’t look back, you may quickly find yourself crawling into bed at night with little memory of your day. When you consume yourself with familiar daily tasks, your brain doesn’t need to be present because it’s not learning anything new. It can run on autopilot and easily coast through the day unaware.

Your entire life can slide by if you keep this habit up! Before you know it years of experiences can slip by almost unnoticed. During these years you probably found it difficult to find happiness, contentment or deep connection. This is partially due to a lack of presence. Simply put, you were not there to enjoy things as they happened.

Don’t worry though you can this change right now. Begin to incorporate mindful practices into your life. One mindful practice that I love is mindful eating. I found it extremely helpful with digestion to be mindful when I eat and thoroughly chew my food. This provides a break in the day for each meal or snack. I have no distractions, and I’m completely present in the experience.

An added benefit to this practice is a deeper connection with whomever you were eating. Even if you are only eating with yourself. It’s a perfect opportunity to reduce stress multiple times a day. It slows down your eating times which are built into the day, so you don’t have a new task to add into your schedule. Try adding this practice and share your experience with us!
