Groundhog To Get The Death Penalty?

The death penalty for a GroundHog? Are you for real? Can you give a Groundhog the death penalty?

Groundhog Day is celebrated on February 2nd and according to folklore if the groundhog emerges from his burrow and doesn't see his shadow then there will be an early spring to follow. If the groundhog emerges from his burrow and sees his shadow then he will retreat and there will be six more weeks of winter.

Groundhog Day predictions have been recorded as far back as 1841. Year after year the tradition continued and the celebrations in Pennsylvania reach over 40,000 people. Celebrations include food, speeches plays or skits for entertainment. The largest Groundhog day Celebration is held in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania where the Grounghog lives. The groundhog was given the name Punxsutawney Phil.

This also sparked an idea for a comedy movie "Groundhog Day" starring Bill Murray. It was about a news reporter that came to cover the story about Groundhog Day and he was made to live the same day over and over until he got it right.

This year on February 2, 2013 Punxsutawney Phil emerged from his home in Gobbler's Knob to declare to his followers an early spring for you and me.

But according to the forecast on the first day of spring most states got snow or very cold wind and rain. It has continued to be cold and windy from that day on and more snow is predicted for many states tonight and tomorrow. Forecasters say that there doesn't really seem to be an end to winter in sight.

Now a prosecutor in Ohio is sueing Punxsutawney Phil for predicting an early spring that never came and doesn't look like it will be here in the near future. The complaint was filed in a Butler County Ohio Court and the charge is misrepresentation of early spring. And the people believe this betrayal is worth the death penalty.

Here's Gmoser's full, definitely deadly serious indictment:

STATE OF OHIO,

COUNTY OF BUTLER, SS:

ln the Year 2013

l, Michael T. Gmoser, the Prosecuting Attorney of this County, say by way of information that:

COUNT ONE

MISREPRESENTATION OF EARLY SPRING

On or about February 02, 2013, at Gobbler's Knob, Punxsutawney Phil did purposely, and with prior calculation and design, cause the people to believe that Spring would come early. Contrary to the Groundhog Day report, a snowstorm and record low temperatures have been and are predicted to continue in the near future, which constitutes the offense of MISREPRESENTATION OF EARLY SPRING, a Unclassified Felony, and against the peace and dignity of the State Of Ohio.

SPECIFICATION: The people further find and specify that due to the aggravating circumstances and misrepresentation to the people that the death penalty be implemented to the defendant, Punxsutawney Phil.

Poor little Groundhog. I don't think that is fair. How is it his fault? Many of his followers and keepers say if anyone tries to come and arrest Phil they will have a big fight on their hands. There will be over 18 hunters ready and waiting for them. Should be interesting.

What are your thoughts about Punxsutawney Phil? Should he be held accountable for the weather?

What is strange is meteorologists have been run out of town predicting a really big storm that had never come. They actually receive death threats and actually have to pack up and leave town. What is this world coming to. I would love to know.
