September 11th

Today is September 11th. A day to never forget. What were you doing on September 11th 2001 when the first plane crashed into the World Trade Center. I was sleeping. I worked the night shift and I slept till my boys would wake up.

But this day I was woken by the phone. If was my husband calling me from work asking me if I heard what happened to the World Trade Center. I was kind of upset that he woke me and said no I didn't and I really could care less. He said honey you have to turn on the TV. He said an airplane crashed into the World Trade Center. I said yeah yeah good for them.

I was really tired and didn't much care what was going on anywhere else except for the back of my eyelids. But I managed to go turn on the TV and I saw a burning building. I said wow thats awful. All those people. Then here comes another plane crash into the next building. At first I thought they were showing a replay of what was captured on film. But then I realized that I had just watched a second plane crash into the World Trade Center in front of my own eyes.

I quick hung up the phone and called all my family and friends and woke most of them up too. I was speaking to my sister when the building started to fall and she started screaming Oh My God Oh My God All Those People and hung up the phone. I knew she was so overwhelmed she couldn't speak anymore.

We had family that worked in the Pentagon. Two twin sisters and they were ok. Then we heard about the plane crash in Pennsylvania where many people took their own lives to save thousands more.

All that morning and afternoon I was with my friend from across the street. She was so scared to be home alone and she brought her kids over with her and we kept each other company while watching the tragedy unfold before us.

I had gone into work that evening relieving a shift of people that were anxious to get home to
their family. I filled them in on a lot that was going on. They were all trapped at work and didn't know to much.

Later that night I received a call from a co worker that was an EMT part time. He got called to the NY Giants Stadium in NJ to help with injuries and different things that pertained to the Trade Center tragedy. He told me that he could smell burning flesh all they way from where he was. He said it was awful. Every where he looked he saw people all burned up and dieing. He was almost puking while he was on the phone with me. I stayed on the phone with him as long as I could to help him get through the horrible night.

I will never forget that day or those who lost their lives and I believe today should be a day of rememberance and that corporations should close for the day. I don't think it's fair that we all go on business as usual and make any money that day. We should honor and respect those who were just trying to live their lives and take care of their families and lost their lives just like that.

Lets take a minute and remember them and all the families and friends that lost their loved ones that day. And think of all those suffering waiting for their loved ones to come home from the war that was started so long ago because of this day. Remember all those who lost their lives and are still fighting for us today.

Don't take a moment for granted. Always remember that what you have is not just there. That it is a gift given to us by our men out there making sure we can live our lives safe and secure.
