The Day I Lost My Teeth!

The day I lost my teeth. That is a statement that could mean several things. Are you picturing someone punching me in the face and all my teeth falling out? Are you seeing me fall and smash my face on the ground? When I was a young girl I had a pretty nice gap in the middle of my teeth. I never thought anything of it until of course I got older and started to notice myself in the mirror. I hated it so much but I still never seemed to bother anyone but me. I never had trouble in the guy department. So why should I have cared. Little did I know that there was a problem connected to this that would soon change my perception of teeth. When I turned 25 I noticed my teeth were getting brittle. Just my top teeth mostly. It was getting really hard to drink or bite into anything cold or hot. A lot of people have this problem. It's called having sensitive teeth I know. Brush with some sensitive teeth toothpaste and you'll be good. Didn't work for me. The pain was so bad it felt like I was touching a root. I hit the ceiling just about everytime I ate. One day out of no where my top front tooth snapped in half. I was so upset. I looked terrible now but I went on like this. I met my now husband looking like that and I finally got some health benefits and got it fixed. At that time I was informed that I had a long road ahead with my teeth. They told me that the nerves of my sinuses were strangling the roots of my teeth. So one by one they started to get pulled. I was getting abscess teeth one after another until finally I got a partial for my top front at 26 years old. It was hard to get used to and was very uncomfortable and anytime I needed to clean it it would scrap the layers off my teeth. I was always fiddling with the clamps to make it more comfortable but then I snapped them off accidentally the night before my wedding. Seriously! I was freaking out. I didn't know what to do and lucky my grandmom told me about fixodent. That's how I got through my Wedding and Honeymoon. I was so relieved. Not to soon after the other teeth had to come out so now it was time to get the full top denture. I thought it would be better but I still hated it. But to have teeth when you smile was certainly a plus. I did look a lot different with my dentures and even the partial. My teeth were tiny and they had the gap in them. My dentures weren't made to look like that so it made me look a bit different. I was happy that I looked so much better so I would be able to have a great big smile in pictures when I had children. When this day came on March 31st 1999 I checked into the hospital and while in labor that took another day I had to put my dentures some where because I couldn't wear them while in labor. I put them in a cup and put them up next to the Television. I'm the only one in the room so nothing will happen to them. This was 4:30 pm on March 31st. Then on April 1st my first boy Hayden was born by c-section. At that time I didn't worry much about what I looked like. I was dippy from all the drugs I was on. The next day April 2nd I was having company. Everyone was going to come all day long to see the new baby. I got out of bed and got dressed and ready for my guests. My last thing to do was clean my teeth. I went to the television to get the cup and it was gone. It was no where to be seen. I started to freak and lose my breath I was so upset I was jumping up and down screaming where are my teeth where are my teeth. The nurse came running in telling me over and over to calm down. That I was scaring her. She said she was the one that took care of me when I came in. She didn't remember me having dentures. She thought maybe some of my drugs hadn't worn off. I said really like I would halucinate that I had dentures. Why would I want to do that? I know I had dentures when I arrived here and I put them right here next to the TV in a cup 2 days ago when I came in. She said Oh No I bet that house keeping threw them out. The hospital administrator had the house keeping staff searching the dumpers and trash compactor for my dentures. Like I would have taken them back. I was so upset and was constantly yelling and crying because my pictures with my first baby were going to look terrible. I guess though who is looking at me anyway. They wouldn't even notice. The baby is much more important to see. So no one would be really looking at me. But I was still upset. My friend told me to tell everyone I was just making the baby more comfortable. He would'nt be the only one in pictures without teeth. So hope you got your laugh of the day at my expense. I always love to make people laugh. Even if it's at me myself. LOL But there is more. I had to get new teeth. The hospital never found them like I'd take them back anyway. So I went to my dentist and he started to make a new set right away. The hospital agreed to pay for them and my dentist trusted that they would pay so he let them have the new set when they came in even though the hospital hadn't sent the check yet. As time went by I thought the matter was resloved but you will never believe this I'm at work and don't I see a police officer walk in and ask for me. The dentist called the police because he never got his money and thought I was getting one over on him. I didn't get arrested. I explained it to him and he was ok with it. He just told me to get in touch with the dentist. My grandmother was so mad she decided to call the newspaper and tell them what the hospital did to me and now they won't pay. The police just came to her job for the money. The very next day I got to go to human resources and rip the check out of their hands and go pay the dentist. There is my story of the day I lost my teeth.
