We Are Cooking

We are cooking in New Jersey today. The heat index right now is 112. Right now the temperature is 98. It has been reaching over 100 all week. This morning at 6am it was already 90. For the Fourth of July this year it was 104 here. I only remember that happening 2 times in my life and it has been in the last 10 years. It does seem to get warmer every year and this year we practically had no winter. That has happened a lot here but then a couple of years back we had a back to back snow storm that dropped 72 inches of snow in 3 days. It was so awful for us. It's something that lots of people are used to but they live in areas where they are used to dealing with that kind of snow. Our states around here are not so ready for that kind of snow. Houses are so close to each other and streets are so small. When you get a storm like that there is no where to go. There were people stuck in there homes for over a month. There cars were buried by snow plows and for some streets plows never even came. I have also noticed that our thunder storms that accompany this heat are so incredible. They are something we have never seen around these states. Our power companies are not prepared for this kind of thing. The last storms we had people were without electricity for weeks. Some came back up last Sunday and then another storm came through. There have been power companies coming from other states to help us. Yet again another bad storm is coming and it really won't even help with the heat. it's just coming to leave another big mess for us. My husband is driving home from his work in Pennsylvania and I heard his work truck being hit with hail. The sky is getting very dark here now. If it comes I hope it will cool it down. But it really don't look that way. I love it when my son complains he is hot. The A/C costs a lot so we turn it up to 82 for most of the day cause it's still cooler than it is outside. But then we give in and turn it on because we ourselves can't stand it anymore. I always say to my son that you are missing the big picture here. You should be so grateful that you have a roof over your head and food to eat and a way to get out of the outdoor heat. There are many people who don't have this and are outside living in the streets. In the cities where you find the most people without A/C you see them hanging out in the places that have A/C. The grocery stores are packed with people walking up and down the isles with no intention of buying anything. They sit in the laundry mats and even McDonalds. I feel bad for them. But I know that when you are a kid it is hard to have compassion for other people. So I am always reminding my son what he should be grateful for. I do seem to be handling it well but I really do hope it goes away soon. I'd like to be able to take my kids out in the pool. It's just way to hot to now and if you touch the water in the pool today it will actually burn you. If you are like me and dealing with this you know exactly what I am talking about. I do not like winter and I am grateful when we get a warm one but then there are other dangers that also come with that. We have an abundance of different things that should've died in the winter that are still going strong now. Bacteria and bugs are to name a few.
