What Are The Plugins?

WordPress is a content management system written in PHP that allows you to easily build an engaging and working website without being proficient in all the programming languages ??previously required to build a website.
WordPress themes are WordPress extensions (also written in PHP) that allow you to easily choose the format and style you want for your site. Plugins, usually written in PHP as well, extend the functionality even more. Add-ons can quickly and easily extend functionality or add new features to your WordPress websites.

WordPress Plugins

Plugins are extensions that we install in our WordPress to increase some core functionality. Like the themes, there are free and premium, and the theme is very diverse (plugins for contact forms, SEO, ecommerce, forums ...), practically everything.
But it is important not to pass and install only the necessary, because if we do not have control, we can fill our web plugins and this can directly affect the behavior of the web and the loading speed of the same, negatively impacting the user experience , Something that is not good at all.
These plugins are installed on our server, more specifically in the folder wp-content / plugins /. Important, we are always talking about plugins for wordpress.org. Remember that for wordpress.com it is not possible to install any plugins as we mentioned in this comparison.

Ways to install a plugin

The ways to install a plugin are very similar to installing WordPress templates. There are three main ways:
- Directly searching and selecting the plugin that we want to install from our panel Plugins> Add new. We have at our disposal all the plugins of the official repository, which are all free.
- Uploading the plugin .zip via Plugins> Add new. In the same location we have an option to upload the plugin in .zip format from our computer. This is the most common way to install premium plugins.
- Installation via FTP: if some of the above methods is not suitable, you can also install a plugin via FTP. This is the option that developers use, especially in the development stages of the plugin, to update the changes quickly.

It is important that the plugin that we install is compatible with the version of our WordPress. In addition, the time of the last update of the plugin is also important. If it takes more than two years, it is understood that the plugin is abandoned and may not be fully recommended its installation

Keep your plugins up to date

An important issue is to keep the plugins updated, since they are usually one of the ways by which we can have unwanted access to our system. In recent days some vulnerabilities have been found in well known plugins. Therefore it is always important to be attentive and update as soon as we can. A good rule may be to perform a check once a week, although with less regularity, better than better.
And remember, not to have more plugins, your WordPress is going to be better. Rather, on the contrary, a site overloaded with plugins can lower its performance and affect issues related to site speed, so important for SEO. So you know, to install with head
