The Rituals Of Success

Rituals are one of the many useful tools to utilize to achieve toughness as a successful business owner. Repetition of positive physical, mental, and emotional habits gradually brings them under control.  Being aware and directing your energy in beneficial channels will eventually give way to automatic rituals of eating, sleeping, resting, stretching, exercising, thinking, planning, etc--all of which will keep you in balance and harmony.

Without positive, skillful rituals, we cannot look forward to succeeding. What are rituals? Rituals are disciplined patterns of feeling, thinking, and acting that enrich our ability to respond to the varying forces of our lives in the most appropriate and meaningful way. In the book, "Stress for Success" by James E. Loehr, he gives a partial list of ways in which rituals empower and enhance our lives:

  1. Rituals help us to shift gears, to pendulate between stress and recovery, and to alter the rhythm of our days.
  2. Rituals assist us to access the underlying physiology of stress and recovery.
  3. Through the use of prayer, meditation, song, bells, weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, funerals, and holidays, rituals mobilize such emotions as joy, sadness, remembrance, love, loyalty, and bravery. 
  4. Rituals increase personal control and facilitate living a life that is consistent with our deepest values and beliefs.
  5. Rituals bring order and structure to chaos and change.
  6. Rituals are familiar and comforting during unpredictable storms of stress.
  7. Rituals magnify and focus attention like a zoom lens.
  8. Rituals signal what do and when to do it to successfully complete a mission. 
  9. Rituals assist us to execute complex, challenging tasks with diligence--mentally, physically, and spiritually.
  10. Rituals can powerfully stimulate past emotional states by activating sensory memory
