The Flu

Unfortunately I have the flu (influenza), BUT this is the first cold or flu that I have had in about 25 years.  In addition, I have already started to feel better and my fever broke after 48 hours. Presently at day 5,  I am still respecting this malady, since so many have been dying from it, but my symptoms are now just a minor cough, which will be gone soon.

Since this flu season seems to be one of the worst flu seasons in a long time, I hope that my sharing a couple of easy and effective flu and cold tips may be of help. What I am sharing seems to work for me, it may work for you, but please see the disclaimer below.

Before I share or remind you of these tips , allow me to pass on a few cold and flu jokes.  Enjoy!

nothing funny about the flu except the following

Flu Advice from Joe!

Joe has rather different advice for the flu.

Joe says, before you get the flu, "Go to the Liquor Store."

Joe  recommends that you, "Buy your favorite alcohol."

"How does that fight the flu, Joe?"

"Alcohol KILLS germs!"

You might say that Joe recommends that you get your flu shot in a glass.

Different Flus

There apparently is a difference when treating the flu.

For Avian Flu, for example, you need to use a Tweetment,
whereby, you will want an Oinkment for Swine Flu.

C!

My secret weapon is Vitamin C. As soon as I have that feeling that I am 'coming down' with something, I am taking a dose of EmergenC.   If I can take it within a couple of hours of that coming down with something feeling, I usually succeed at not coming down with it.  That early response has helped me stay cold and flu free for years.

I did take EmergenC within the first two hours of that 'coming down with something' feeling, but, unfortunately within six hours, I had the flu.  This year's version wasted no time.

Each morning, I have taken ONE dose of EmergenC and will continue until a few days after this is gone.  .

Florida ER nurse goes on epic rant about flu season

About vitamin C:

We cannot store Vitamin C.  Vitamin C helps with healing.  Many diseases can be fought with C, including polio.  C is prevalent in many fruits and veggies, especially citrus. My drink of choice is presently OJ rather than water, and will continue to be, until the flu is gone.  Taking excessive amounts of C can cause diarrhea, stomach pain, and flatulence.  That is why I stick with one dose daily of EmergenC, which is what is recommended.

Drink OJ!

I drink OJ daily for breakfast.  I like OJ, so I choose to have OJ for breakfast (and much more often, during the flu's visit).  My 20+ years health, wellness, and weight loss research has convinced me that vitamin C is essential for good health.

Get Tissue with LOTION, they make a real difference.

Omega3

I take Omega3 daily, one dose daily for its health benefits for the heart and brain and especially as a way to eliminate arthritis pain.  My first day of flu symptoms included extreme muscle and joint pain.   SO...I took a second dose of Omega3, which eased the pain.  One of Omega3's benefits is to reduce inflammation and with NO side effects.   Fortunately, at the end of 48 hours, my fever broke, and the muscle and joint aches went away .

Daily Vitamin!

I am a firm believer in taking a HIGHLY ABSORBABLE daily vitamin.  Our diets are TOO likely to be lacking.  Nearly everyone needs Vitamin D, for example.  A daily absorbable supplement helps us to avoid deficiencies and to better prevent and combat colds and flus.

The Flu is Terrible!
Healthcare Triage
Published on Feb 1, 2018
This year's influenza is really bad.
Hospitalizations are up, and health departments in 49 states report widespread flu

Avoid Dairy?

Most experts seem to agree that dairy does NOT create phlegm, although it may make phlegm thicker. James M. Steckelberg, M.D.for the Mayo Clinic says that frozen dairy may even sooth a sore throat and add calories that you may no be eating.

I usually cut back or cut out dairy during a flu or cold.  The more congested that I am, the more I cut back.  In my case, dairy and a cold or the flu do not get along, but the experts say that I am wrong.

Chicken soup!

Chicken soup has been a cold and flu option since the 12th century.  It may not be a cure, but it is thought to help reduce and alleviate congestion, reduce inflammation, and improve hydration.  I have had some form of Progresso chicken soup daily for lunch since the onset of this flu. Sodium is a bit high, but NO added sugar.

Conserve energy!

If you should come down with the flu, conserve your energy.  You sincerely need your energy to fight this bug and you do not need to sap your energy on tasks that actually do not need to be done or can be done by someone else.

Please, do not be a hero!  Going to work is definitely not a good choice.  Caring for the kids, can be delegated to someone else, you NEED to conserve energy in order to fight this.  Since this bug can kill you, please take it seriously.

See your health care provider

I did not see my doctor, but I was and still am ready to make an appointment, if anything happens.  I am in good health, so I have an edge, but our Local News has managed to create a healthy fear of the potential of death.   I am being a little 'extra cautious and careful' and suggest that you might want to do the same.

Thank you for reading, my friends, may your flu days be zero.

Win At Losing Weight.

Losing weight should be SLOW!

Your healthiest weight loss is about 1 to 2 pounds per week.

Many diets are spin offs of diets that help you lose weight at a healthy rate (such as the Mediterranean Diet.).   I agree that faster initial weight loss helps you to SEE results and to stay motivated, but fast weight loss during flu season may be lowering your immunity at the worst possible time!

Consider slow, steady and healthy weight loss, such as the Mediterranean Diet.  You want weight loss that won't make you more susceptible to colds, flu, and other disease.

Why this year’s flu vaccine may only be 20% effective

FYI:

Being Contagious!??

According to the doctors, when you have a cold, you are contagious, especially the first two or three days. When you have the flu, you are contagious, then perhaps less contagious about 24 hours after your fever breaks.

Wash your hands often, and cough or sneeze into your elbow, are a few suggestions that we should follow to reduce spreading the flu.  If you have children, please download the following free pdf with NO STRINGS attached.
