2017 World Series

The World Series, which is in game 4, is my motivation for this post.  Playing baseball was a huge part of my childhood, so I steal time to watch the World Series and love every minute of it.   This post is about Yogi Berra and Yogi-isms or Berra-isms.

What are Yogi-isms or Berra-isms?   Yogi quotes.  If you are not familiar with Yogi quotes, you are in for a treat. Many of Yogi's quotes are funny or zany and sometimes profound.  I am including some below, I hope you like them as much as I do.

Lawrence Peter 'Yogi' Berra was born in 1925, and became a major league ball player at age 21.  He was with the New York Yankees for the next 18 years, the last sixteen years his uniform number was 8.  His 19th year was with the Mets, also as #8.

I remember Yogi as a catcher, but he has played LF, RF and one year as 3B. His record is impressive, of course, the following are a some of the highlights.

Yogi Berra was the first catcher in Major League history to win back-to-back Most Valuable Player Awards.
Yogi Berra had his number (#8) retired in 1972 by the New York Yankees
During the 1947 World Series, Game 3, Yogi Berra pinch hit for Sherm Lollar and hit a home run off Ralph Branca in the seventh inning, bases were empty, one man was out - the first pinch hit home run ever hit in World Series history.
No catcher has surpassed his mark for All-Star Game appearances
Yogi Berra was ranked fortieth on The Sporting News list of the 100 Greatest Baseball Players in Major League history.
Yogi Berra was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1972

Yogi Berra True Story!??

Yogi's teammates swear this story is true.  One night Yogi was terrified to see a baby falling from the roof of a New York tenement building.  Yogi ran toward the baby and made a miracle catch.  Then, instinctively, Yogi stood and threw the baby to second base.

You better cut the pizza in four pieces because I’m not hungry enough to eat six.
You wouldn’t have won if we’d beaten you.
It’s like déjà vu all over again.
It ain’t over till it’s over.
The towels were so thick there I could hardly close my suitcase.
You can observe a lot by just watching.
No one goes there nowadays, it’s too crowded
Pair up in threes.
If I didn’t make it in baseball, I won’t have made it workin’. I didn’t like to work.
You’ve got to be very careful if you don’t know where you are going, because you might not get there.
He hits from both sides of the plate. He’s amphibious.
It was impossible to get a conversation going, everybody was talking too much.
I never blame myself when I’m not hitting. I just blame the bat and if it keeps up, I change bats. After all, if I know it isn’t my fault that I’m not hitting, how can I get mad at myself?
It ain’t the heat, it’s the humility.
Take it with a grin of salt.
I never said most of the things I said.

When you come to a fork in the road, take it.

Thank you for reading, my friends.  I wish you much success.

PS.  I like the pizza in four slices, and pair up in threes.  How about you?
