Chips In Church! (fiction)

Monaco is one of the most popular sport and leisure destinations and one of the most affluent areas in the world.  It was not always that way.  It he 1850's, Monaco was nearly bankrupt.  The royal family decided to build a spa and casino to increase revenues.  The first casino was not a success, but after several relocations, it ended up in Monte Carlo in the mid 1860's and in 1868, due to the opening if the railway, it began to prosper.

In 1883, Saint-Charles Church on Monte Carlo's Avenue was built.  Now and again, a casino chip or two would show up in the collection plates.  These chips are redeemable for cash.  In an effort to increase collections, the church decided to accept casino chips.  In no time, they had chips from all the casinos in the area.

The influx of chips was a boon, but it presented a problem in that all these chips had to be turned into cash.  Alvin, a very studious member of the monastery, was appointed to handle all the accounting, consolidation and cashing in of the casino chips.  He did such a great job, he carried out his unique task for over 60 years.

He became somewhat of a legend in the area.  Perhaps you have heard of Alvin, The Chip Monk.

Charles III of Monaco was responsible for turning the Monte Carlo district and Monaco into a thriving town.  With Permission By François-Auguste Biard - I have taken this from the Dutch Wikipedia en:nl:Afbeelding:KarelIIIMonaco.jpg, Public Domain, Link

The story of Monaco's going from near bankruptcy to one of the wealthiest areas on earth is true.  It is a classic example of persistence.  The Monte Carlo Casino was initially a failure, an expensive failure, but Charles II of Monaco persisted.   According to Wikipedia, Monaco's GDP per capita in 2014 was $187,650 which was first in the world!

What if Charles II of Monaco had not persisted?  Monaco's future may have been much different and much less successful.

What if you do not persist?

My friends, I thank you for reading.  I wish you much persistence and much success.

The Flexitarian Diet Review

The Flexitarian Diet is a 'flexible vegetarian' type diet that allows you to eat meat.

This is a diet that is easier and more flexible than most.  Its popularity has much to do with offering you and I the benefits of better health, losing weight, and living longer, yet still allowing us to eat meat.

Ranked 4th best overall diet and 5th best easy to follow by USNews, this diet may be worth your consideration.
