Marketers' Rule Of Thumb

Management Dress Code?

It is advised that you come to work dressed according to your salary.

If we see you wearing Prada shoes and carrying a Gucci bag, we assume you are doing well financially and therefore do not need a raise.

If you dress poorly, you need to learn to manage your money better, so that you buy nicer clothes, and therefore you do not need a raise.

If you dress just right, you are right where you need to be and therefore you do not need a raise.

Marketers' Rule Of Thumb

You've worked with the large networks such as Google, Twitter, YouTube, Linkedin, and Facebook.

You've also seen massive rules they have, and how fickle they are.

They can kick you off their network at any time, and give you absolutely no reason why.

Be sure to be extra careful negotiating those sites, and read and comply with all their rules.

The rule of thumb for IMers and SBOs is to rely on many diferent sites and platform on which to advertise.

Lets turn our attention to traffic strategies for leads that are fairly predictable, and reliable.

Banner advertising will not change, unless things change dramatically for internet marketing.

Place banner ads on niche sites with lots of targeted traffic.
Checking Sites for traffic

You'll need to use to check pagerank the number of visitors to a niche site.

Also, verify the connected sites and see their rank in Alexa.

These linked sites to IBOtoolbox are huge from a Pagerank perspective.

  • is 538 WW and 657 US.
  • is 5657 WW and 4215 US
  • is 11760 WW and 5231 US
  • is 18205 WW and 9591 US
  • is 20979 WW and 5389 India

To vet a limked site for Pagerank just click the .com and Alexa will bring you right to the Alexa-ranking page.

You can image the huge amount of traffic that IBO toolbox gets linked to these highly ranked sites.

Banner Placement

The rule-of-thumb for hanging banners is the site must have more than 10k visitors.

Keep in mind, that the industry average is .5% of the visitors will click your banner ad, that would give you 50 clicks per month,on a site with 10000 visitors per month.

If you're in a niche site that looks good with over 10,000 visitors per month, some sites will have an advertising button on the bottom of the page.

If there's no advertising information contact the site owner at the About Us page.

You identify your target audience, then your niche sites become the sites on which you'll place your banner adverts.

Be sure you know the keywords or keyword phrases for which your target audience searches.

The predominate audience keyword phrases are the keyword phrases you'll insert into Google Search to find the top-ranked niche sites.

Be sure the site concurs with your site, that is, in the same niche.

When you negotiate with the site's owner, you'll determine if the banner ads costs are CPM or fixed price.

Try to negotiate a fixed price, which is generally cost per month.

CPM or cost per thousand impressions, can be an unverifiable term, because you don't know the length of time ascribed to the impression.

You've seen that some impressions are gone so fast you wonder, if they are even showing the ad.

Obviously they are, but how do you know the time frame?

Unfortunately, the Industry is oriented to sell ads as CPM impressions.

Be absolutely certain that the site on which you place the banner ad has Responsive Web Design (RWD).

RWD is built into the website design; it makes the site easy to see as well as negotiate ,on mobile devices.

Mobile Banners are 320 x 50 px, and are designed to fit most mobile devices.
They can also be 300x50 pixels.

Banner Design

Banner design calls for banners that are either ugly and stand out or simplistic and blend in.

That seems to be an contradiction in terms, but ads that stand-out get attention a lot of attention.

Conversely, blended-in ads get read more, because enquirers think they're part of your value-ad content.

Blended-in banners are very natural and not distracting as the visitor reads your content.

Always keep your banner ad as simple as possible.
Here's a great free site to build a banner very quickly,

The best part about bannerfans is that it's a free site; it's actually fun to build banners there.

Also, you can go to Kris Karafotas' ,for more professional and intricate design work.

Here are the common banner sizes, all in pixels:

  • 468 x 60 (on Traffic Exchange sites and Safelist sites)
  • 125 x 125 common
  • 300 x 250 common
  • 250 x 250 common
  • 728 x 90 leaderboard
  • 160 x 600 skyscraper

Recall,.jpg is the suffix used for static banners and the .gif is used for animated banners.

Many of the top display networks like Google and Clicksor, a Canadian based display network, only allow 15 seconds of animation.

They don't allow non-stop animation.
Continual animation takes more bandwidth, hence the limitation.

The banner process for lead generation consists of two steps that must take place.

First the banner click and subsequent opt-in, with the enquirer entering their email address on your congruent landing page.

That means the banner's advert text,or text ad, must match the information on the landing page.

The landing page needs to be totally congruent with the banner ad, use the same copy, and the same images, on the banner and on the landing page.

Track your ad and either tweak your banner ad and continue or remove it from the site, if it doesn't work.

Recall, the click-through-rate or CTR is a critical metric to track.

Start a part-time business and make as many mistakes as you possibly can while you still have your daytime job. Robert Kiyosaki
