Keep your butts with you

This happened about 10 years ago when a bunch of us that used to hang out at a local bar decided to join a nearby gym in Mesa.

We had one individual among our group who was quite the redneck sort named Randy.

We were at Bally's one afternoon on the treadmills and Randy, imagine this... in a mesh ballcap, pulled up to the knee white socks, short shorts and a T-shirt with a breast pocket where he kept his pack of cigarettes.

While on the treadmill, some of his cigarettes began to work their way out of his shirt pocket... without thinking, he tried to grab them and went right off the back onto the floor with about 5 or 6 cigarettes laying about that he tried to but failed to rescue in front of quite a large crowd of exercise-conscious onlookers.

It was hilarious!

Improving The Cardiovascular System

Cardiovascular exercise, sometimes referred to as "cardio", is another important consideration for the prevention of dementia and all its causes .

But why is cardiovascular exercise so important for the prevention of dementia?
Cardiovascular exercise is the most efficient vehicle by which you carry nutrients to the extremities of your body.

Also, cardiovascular exercise is the most efficient process to remove metabolic waste from all parts of the human body especially the periphery.

What would happen if you never trained in cardio?

An analogy is a sprinker system that waters the main part of your lawn but misses the boundaries.

Moreover, think of the blood's job of providing essential nutrients to all parts of the body, including carrying nutrients to the fringes by way of the capillaries, and removing metabolic waste by way of the venules.

Cardiorespiratory training makes this system more effective and efficient as it forces blood through the capillaries and venules, bringing nutrients to and removing waste at the perimeter of the system.

Recall how cardiovascular exercise makes your heart muscle stronger.

The heart muscle,or muscular pump,is very similar to skeletal muscle.

Therefore, it can be trained and strengthened like a skeletal muscle. The major difference is that heart muscles are shorter and more tightly connected.

The reason for the compact muscle configuration, is for muscle fiber synchronicity, there's a built-in contraction rhythm, and the strongest fibers which have the highest rhythm determines the heart rate.

Basically, what I mean by strong is that your heart rate is lower because it's able to pump more blood with each contraction, this is called stroke volume.

That's why a runner's heart rate is so low because of a muscular heart, that produces more stroke volume.

It does not need the more beats,it need less beats, it becomes more efficient.

Also, lower beats per minute allows for more time for the heart to fill and therefore more blood is pumped by the stronger heart called cardiac output .

Cardio training increases the demand on your heart and lungs to provide blood and oxygen to your body.

Stoke volume and heart rate increase to meet the higher demands.
Cardio workouts strengthen your heart and lung function, resulting in improved rates.

Cardiovascular training goals include lowering your resting heart rate, resulting in higher stroke volume rates and reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.

To train in a phase 1 cardio workout simply subtract your age from 220 to get your MHR. Phase one is 65-75% of your MHR.

Be sure to communicate effectively with your doctor before your attempt a phase one cardio workout.
