Does joining a shopping co-operative make sense?

Shopping is an activity that most people undertake, some like it some have it, but it has become somewhat essential for life and the way we live. You invariably go to different shops for different items or at different time.

How you shop varies from person to person, but humans are creatures of habit and are happiest in a familiar situation. Many years ago I was friends with a person who used to prepare a shopping list based on the layout of the store, so a to spend the least time shopping and would only buy what was on his list. If the store moved a few shelves around he used to have a shopping disaster.

Everyone likes bargains but sometimes items it needs a lot of time and effort to root out the best prices and to be honest not many people have time for this. Shops and stores will quite often be prepared to discount their prices, so long as they can sell more products, which is where the idea of how shopping co-operatives started.

Just imagine going out to do your weekly shopping and getting 1-2% cashback every time, this amount would not only give you the feel good factor but put money into your pocket. Now suppose the same cashback card could also be used for eating out, repairing the car, buying clothes, paying insurance, travel etc, I am sure you would realise how much these saving would grow over a year.

I am prepared to bet that some people will start to modify their habits to ensure the majority of their spending would involve use of the co-operative system.

I remember by Grandfather telling me when I was child "Son, look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves", so yes A shopping co-operativedoes make sense.
