Just wanted to spend a few moments remembering and sharing a special day that happened for me 5 years ago today.
My daughter Savannah was born.
Every time that a child is born is always a blessing and is a reminder how precious life is and that through the life of others, we can live forever.
Depending on the circumstances of a pregnancy and the outcome of the birth, it can be emotional in all sorts of ways.
My particular situation for this particular child and her birth was somewhat stressful, however, the outcome turned out to be a miracle.
To be as brief as possible, I had medical issues at the time that in all reality I was not suppose to be able to carry any more children.
Even though it was a draining and emotional pregnancy for me, I was able to carry her. However, the entire pregnancy she was literally draining me of all my nutrients so I looked pale, drawn and by the end of the pregnancy had lost over 40 lbs.
I was constantly tired and weak and basically had to stay in bed the entire time. With having other minor children, this was sometimes difficult to do.
Then one morning, right after an ice storm, I ended up slipping down stairs, landing on my right side. It only seemed, at the time, that I had hurt my wrist. I still had about 6 weeks before she was due.
However, eight hours later I was in excruciating pain and knew something was dreadfully wrong.
By the time I reached the hospital, I was in such severe pain I honestly thought my stomach was going to explode.
It was soon discovered that I had an "ABRUPTIO PLACENTAE" which is a premature detachment of the placenta from the wall of the uterus.
I had been bleeding internally for hours and the baby was losing oxygen.
I was told if I had not gotten to the hospital within that hour, we would have both died. As it stood, there were quite a few hours that were touch and go for both of us.
She ended up bouncing back faster than I did. I had to receive many pints of blood to bring me back to normal.
-------------------------
Now here we are 5 years later. We are both thriving and as I remember that time, I know just how blessed we both are.
Things could have went so much differently. But we are very fortunate. Just one more of those "life's happenings" that prove just how special your life can be and how at a moments notice things can change.
