As I pondered today on what I could write about, I became desperate and decided I would ask my four year old little girl what would be good for me to write about.
Well, being the kind of little girl she is or maybe as all little children are at her age, I guess she had already clued into how I had been feeling throughout the day. So she, without hesitation told me that I could write about “flowers”.
“Really”, I said to her, “why flowers?” She told me that writing about flowers would make me happy. Wow, you cannot hide anything from a child, can you?
If only we could all look at the world and see it as a child does. Unfortunately, the weight of the world sometimes takes its toll on us. Some of us may have a little more difficulty than others dealing with what life has to offer us, but being able to bounce back and get back on course is all that counts.
What does it mean to see the world through the eyes of a child?
Children seem to be able to believe in anything that is told to them. They don’t rush around worrying and fretting over all kinds of things and, to them, all things are possible. They only know about this moment; right here and now. They focus 100% of their attention on what they’re doing at the moment because their minds don’t have other thoughts to distract them.
As they grow older, however, they are told they must learn to think ahead and anticipate possible future events and consequences. As they get better and better at this behavior, they spend more and more time living in the future trying to figure out what will happen next.
For some of us, myself included, if we could somehow live and feel as a child at times. Those times when we may feel overwhelmed or defeated by whatever we are trying to accomplish would be wonderful. Maybe it could help to clear our minds and hopefully make it possible to get ourselves back on track more quickly.
If I could see the world
Thru the eyes of a child
What a wonderful world this would be
There'd be no trouble and no strife
Just a big happy life
With a bluebird in every tree
I could see right, no wrong
I could see good, no bad
I could see all the good things
In life I've never had
If I could see the world
Thru the eyes of a child
What a wonderful world this would be
If I could see the world
Thru the eyes of a child
Smiling faces would greet me all the while
Like a lovely work of art
It would warm my weary heart
Just to see thru the eyes of a child
So the next time, if you are having trouble thinking of something to write about, why not just ask a child. Who knows what their little minds possibly will have for you.
