With winter just around the corner, I find myself dreaming of my favorite place in the entire world. Referring to “my small world” and the places I have been.
I currently live in the northwest part of Arkansas and it is very beautiful, especially during the time of the year when the leaves are turning some fabulous colors and the air is becoming nice and cool. The time of year when you can open your windows and air the house out and go for walks without breaking out in a sweat.
I love Fall and Spring, both due to these reasons, not too cold and not too hot. However, even though I have been in Arkansas for a solid 20 years, I still miss my beloved home state of North Carolina.
My hometown, approximately 25 miles from the beach is like any other little hometown, I suppose. Except for the fact that it is a military town and is home to Camp Lejuene Marine Corps Base. So the town itself, consists of not only the normal civilian population, but is also home to the ever coming and goings of different military personnel, which includes all parts of the branches of service; Marines, Army, Air Force and Navy.
While growing up in North Carolina, I spent as much time on the beach as I possibly could. As you get closer to the beach, the more you are able to smell the salt air that comes off of the ocean. There are times, even sitting here in Arkansas, I swear I can smell that salt air.
Some days, I like to think of those days that I would spend lying on the beach, feeling the warmth of the sun on my face and if I wasn't careful, getting too much sun. It was always so relaxing to lie and listen to the crashing of the waves against the shore. To hear the seagulls above making their squealing noises as they would dive to grab a fish or two from the waves breaking below them.
I would also love the feel of the warm sand between my toes, yet needing to be careful as not to burn my feet because the sand could be scorching from the heat of the sun.
To me, it is such a beautiful picture to remember. I still relive those moments when I sometimes feel in need of a few relaxing moments, when life becomes too overwhelming for me. It is always good to have a place for your mind to wander when life becomes a little overwhelming to bear.
Even those of us that are not in a position to actually take a vacation each year, our minds can be a great place to help us escape and rejuvenate after a tiring day.
So whether you prefer the mountains, the desert, a lake or the beach as I do, see if you have a “happy”, “relaxing” place that you can escape to from time to time to help get you through those moments of a life that can be quite overwhelming at times.
Because it's all about you, and becoming a better person so you can go on to help others.
