Reaching Your Destination
There were many times as I was growing up that I had to depend on either my bicycle or my feet to get me from point A to point B.
For those times that I would miss the school bus, I would not loose a minute deciding whether I should walk to school or not. I always did the best that I could in school and would get so very mad at myself when and if I did not get up in time to catch the bus.
We lived clear across town and did not have a vehicle. This was mainly because my mother had a nervous condition and never even tried to learn how to drive. As nervous and upset that she would get at times, this was probably best for everyone that she stayed off the road.
We were never able to depend on someone else to provide us with any sort of transportation. So, whether it was needing to go grocery shopping, needing a ride to or from school, or any type of appointments to doctors and such, we were on our own.
Through time, there were eventually different avenues for getting transportation such as taxi cabs, or certain types of local or state transportation assistance. However, most of those were either very costly or their scheduled runs didn't correspond with the schedule of what could be arranged at the doctors offices and such.
Even when I started college, I would ride my ten speed bike at least 15 miles one way, carrying my very heavy, bulging backpack on my back to make sure I could attend all my classes. I was also doing what I could to work full time to make ends meet.
I was always seen peddling or walking up and down the highways, all hours of the day and night, going and doing what I had to do to eventually make a better life for myself.
I would never hitchhike, that was just too risky. Just as today, maybe more so for today, there were many weirdos out and about. Even though I had a few offers to be given a ride, most of those I felt I had to turn down. Just as I do quite a bit in my life today, my gut feeling would automatically throw major red flags out for some of those offers for a ride.
I grew up knowing that I had to do certain things if I ever wanted to get anywhere in my life. I can't say that I enjoyed all those miles and hours that it took me to peddle or pound the pavement, but it seemed that I just did it and before I knew it, I had reached my destination.
Today, my kids along with others I have observed, expect many things to be handed over to them. They expect to be driven to and fro, without a second thought.
Of course, times have changed and luckily I have a vehicle and due to circumstances in my life, I am also able to stay home. So, if and when a time arises that they need a ride somewhere, I can usually provide it for them.
Even though I grew up having to do certain things to make it through my younger years, the generations before me also had to go about doing certain things to make it through their years that were probably even more demanding.
We all, develop the ability to overcome and achieve what needs to be accomplished no matter what era we grow up in.
As long as you have the determination to reach what you wish for in your future, then you will find a way to make it happen.
With the ever increasing developments of the modern world, even though some things become easier for you to get through life with, there will always be something that will be required of you to help you overcome and insure that you get from point A to point B.
Don't sit there and wait for a ride to get you to your destination in life. Jump on your own bike or let your own two feet guarantee that you make it to where you wish to go.
Your life is what you make of it and will always be determined by what amount of desire you have to reach that destination you have set in your sights.
Good luck to you and hope to see you along the road to success.
