You Have To Take The Good With The Bad

I find journalism so intriguing. Not only is it about constant writing. But, it entails photojournalism, reading

from the teleprompter, and reporting the good with the bad.

For instance, on Tuesday they can be reporting casualties from a tornado or twister. On Wednesday, they can

tell about casualties from a school bus accident. On Thursday, they report about a subway tragedy. On Friday

it is all about a tragic murder suicide. Then on Saturday, they are consumed with covering a Royal Wedding.

What amazes me is how they are not affected by this constant negative news. I am sure they are human. I am

sure they are touched by the news. However, they have a job to do; within a certain timeframe; without

expressing too much emotion.

Not only are they reporting, but they are warning us about how not to make the same mistakes. In terms of

school shootings, they must give us statistics. Each incident is one too many. Nevertheless, they are reducing

the risks of future incidents.

Obviously, there are people who do not watch bad news. Apparently, many of us feel that it will not happen to

us. So we go out there tomorrow and repeat the same thing. Thus, creating more work for law enforcement

and psychologists. We are recreating situations that they see everyday.

Mind you, some crimes are so heinous that they only witness them once in a lifetime. Nonetheless, we are

creating more case studies for CSI to evolve in solving them. At the same time, more books are written.

More television series are created. Also, more movies are made.

Clearly, many individuals are fascinated by the field. Some are directly or indirectly affected by tragedy.

Getting involved is their way of coping. They want to know the cause. They want to find solutions. They

want to inspire young people. They are thrust into a situation that becomes their way of life.
