Done is better than perfect

I was listening to a podcast earlier today and heard a little wisdom...

Busyness is not a reason for not getting other things done. It is an excuse for not claiming your true priorities.”  ? Alan Cohen

Hawaii resident Alan Cohen wrote 22 inspirational books and CDs, including the best-selling The Dragon Doesn't Live Here Anymore.

Too often I’ve found myself obsessing over whether a certain project is “just right”. Some projects I’ve delayed for YEARS while I “thought them through”.

So Mr. Cohen’s thought resonated with me enough to get his book (that I’d never heard of) and read it...

In the end, my delayed projects usually went nowhere because they were no longer relevant. My period of self-induced procrastination…

Had made them irrelevant :(

If you haven’t learned that lesson already, you probably haven’t been around long enough or you’ve probably just haven’t tried very many things.

Changing tracks a bit. Here’s a bit of wisdom...

Finished crap can be edited. Unfinished greatness languishes forever. The only bad writing is the thing you didn't write!” - Margarita Gakis

I suspect that YOU (like me) sometimes try way too hard to be sure to write “really good stuff” before you publish it.

Or - set up really good sales funnels before you implement them

Or - try to make sure everything is “just perfect” in any context before you do whatever you are wanting to do.

But YOU know that this kind of thinking means you will be ineffective in your marketing efforts and simultaneously suck all the joy out of the adventure.

Not because you can’t “make it better” but because no one can buy something that’s “not on the shelf”.

The Dragon Doesn't Live Here Anymore was published written so long ago that Leo Buscaglia and Wayne Dyer wrote a couple of the reviews.

I found it a priceless affirmation of what I already knew but appreciate being reminded...

Pick up a copy at Amazon (and finish it :) - and let me know what you think?

Bill Bateman - here’s to reflecting more, reacting less and reaching higher all the time
