Bill Bateman   My Press Releases

Hurricane Equifax

Published on 9/15/2017
For additional information  Click Here

  • Hurricane Jose is thankfully not much of a threat to the US as I post this
  • Hurricane Harvey killed 82 people so far but the clean-up is commencing while many in Texas & Louisiana are still “under water”
  • Hurricane Max bypassed the US and crashed into Mexico near Acapulco. Some property damage but not much else
  • Hurricane Irma has torn up Florida and parts of Georgia. The death toll is still mounting, tens of thousands of properties are destroyed, the “lights are out” all over Florida.
  • BUT…

America is “stepping up” and helping out. We will recover from all of this in time. Homes will be rebuilt. Lives will go on.

I’m not a “great big” conspiracy theory guy but in the midst of all this wind, all this devastation, human suffering, death and destruction, curiously…

One significant news story slipped through the crowd of bad news stories and (almost) silently kept walking away while it may well be the biggest “storm” (in terms of the number of Americans it will negatively impact) maybe bigger than…

ALL the Hurricane’s put together

I call it…

Hurricane Equifax

Equifax Inc. is a consumer credit reporting agency. They collect information about  you and I and 800 million other American citizens and 88 million businesses worldwide.  They have 9,500 employees. They have gross income of about $250 Million dollars - a MONTH

They’re big...

If you “missed the news”...

Equifax got hacked. They were stolen from. But it wasn’t THEIR money, it was YOUR data…

THAT is a problem.

But how Equifax reacted will probably become a textbook example of what NOT to do and a MUCH bigger story…

Senator Schumer called it "one of the most egregious examples of corporate malfeasance since Enron,"

As many as 143 million Americans, had their personal information stolen.

If there are 2 people in the room you are in, ONE of you, had their personal information stolen (courtesy of Equifax)

This is a bit tedious, but follow the timeline of events for a moment...

  • From Mid-May through July 29th, hackers broke into Equifax’s huge database of information.

  • On the 29th of July Equifax finally “caught it” and stopped the outside access to it’s system immediately..

  • Then on August 1st and 2nd...

3 top executives of the company sold about $2,000,000 dollars worth of the stock they personally owned in the company.

  • On September 7th Equifax finally got around to alerting the public about the cyber theft. At that time it launched a dedicated website for consumers to check to see if they were among the ½ of the population of America whose personal information was stolen.

  • Later that same day Equifax issued a statement that the 3 executives who sold stock didn’t know about the cyber theft when they sold their stock. (just really lucky apparently) because…

  • On September 8th Equifax stock dropped 13 percent. In a month the stock has gone from $143 a share to $93 and class action suits are being filed that many think will severely damage the company, possibly bankrupt it.

But it’s worse than that.

Equifax came out very aggressively with commercials on Television with a GREAT free offer. They would let you “check the dark web” to see if your information was for sale, if it had been stolen.

Sounds great, right? But IF you bothered to read the fine print

Using Equifax's’ “free service” meant you agreed to give up your right to participate in any class action suit against them!

That’s the kind of public relations mistakes that most companies will never recover from.

So what should you do now?...

If you haven’t already, you need to protect yourself. In my next post I’ll go into details about some specifics but if you don’t have quality Identity Theft coverage.

The one I protect myself and my family with is IDShield. It’s affordable (at $10 a month for a single person - $20 a month for a family) but more importantly is comprehensive and…

It’s NOT Equifax

Be safe - be covered.

PS - if you click on THIS LINK - you’ll go to my associate page and be able to see all the details of the plan. If you are not protected, pay attention to the current situation. It’s truly a “clear and present danger” every American needs to pay attention to. If you do choose to enroll in the plan I will be paid a referral fee. If you, or anyone you know want to help us “get the word out” (and earn some referral fees yourself), please let me know in the comments section and I will get back to you within 24 hours.
