Keeping track of 'da money

After a half dozen years in business, I read Michael Gerber’s book “The E-Myth” and realized (among other things) that of the 3 parts of business I was paying very poor attention to the “financial” part.

Just for review…

The “3 parts”  of ANY business are

Marketing - Management/Systems - Finance

Most of what I do is deal with insurance agents and insurance agencies but over the last 5 years I’ve invested a lot of time with home based businesses. People that are involved in Network Marketing, Affiliate marketing or online “local marketing”.

I make some of my own income from affiliate, network and local marketing and like insurance agents (and probably every other business), the “financial” part is often poorly “tended” to.

When it comes to “da money” a lot of the solopreneurs (people working from home “solo”) need to pay attention to some real basics like…

  • When do I get paid?
  • How do I get paid?
  • What’s the minimum commission before I get paid?
  • What “paperwork” has to be done before I get paid?

I’ll give you a personal example (that I’m not that proud of) in the hope that it’ll give you enough anxiety to avoid the anxiety you’ll feel if it’s YOU instead of me…

I started going through all of the programs, platforms and products that I’ve promoted over the last 3 years recently to try to get an idea of what was “working” and what wasn’t.

I invested a long weekend and found a half dozen people/companies OWED ME MONEY!

I had sold their “stuff” but they hadn’t paid me.

With some, it was because the amount they owed me was less than the minimum they paid out. Some I was owed an amount VERY CLOSE to the minimum but I would NEVER get paid if I didn’t sell “a little more”...

With others, it was just because I hadn’t completed a form they needed.

Others had not paid me because I had not jumped through some “hoop” they required, like agreeing to a “term of service” that took 30 seconds to complete.

Pay attention - make sure you get paid

PS - on the marketing side MAKE SURE you are tracking EVERY link. I use LeadsLeap (I use the $25 a month paid version but the free version meets the needs of most people reading this)

Here’s my link - Click here

PPS - want to make more in 2017? Get in touch with me and let’s talk. I’m ALWAYS looking for partners that I can work with (in any business)
