The power of repetition in marketing

I was talking to a couple of veteran insurance agents just this morning about their sales “year to date” and what they were planning for the rest of 2016.

Both of them are having pretty good years. Not outstanding but respectable.

Both are 20 plus years in the business and both have made $50,000 to $200,000 every year for the last 2 decades but here is the surprising point.

Neither one had very good client contact statistics.

Both agents didn’t really know how many times they had contacted any single prospect. That’s right at the edge of “shameful” in the marketing process but it’s really common.

Whether you are marketing to consumers or businesses you need to realize that the action of repetitively contacting prospects is a real “power lever” in marketing.

Each of these 3 situations represents 1,000 “touches” so what do YOU think would have more impact in your marketing…

#1 - contacting 1,000 people once with your offer

#2 - contacting 100 people ten times with your offer

#3 - contacting 50 people 20 times with your offer

If you answered “depends” you are at least thinking…

Let’s assume that all of the people are real prospects, they really are interested in buying something you are selling. They are “qualified”. They really want (for example)…

  • A second income (and you are building a network marketing business)
  • A website that works (and you are building quality websites)
  • A retirement plan (and you sell annuities)

Now, what’s your answer?

If you are a student of marketing you know that in the “information overload” society we live in, people make most purchases after multiple exposures to almost any product or service.

There are many ways to automate that process, that “recontact” and in the next post I’ll talk about some specifics.
