Making "A Lot of Contacts"

Published on 7/21/2016
For additional information  Click Here

Making a LOT of contacts often takes the same amount (sometime less) than making a few contacts.

Hopefully since my last post I”ve convinced you that making a LOT of contacts is good for your business for 2 reasons…

  • Increase your number of clients
  • Replace clients your are going to lose by attrition anyway

Most business people I talk to are insurance agents and home based business owners and they all agree that more contacts is a good idea but the “how to do it” is a question for many.

I believe there are many paths to the same goal. What works for one business effectively may not work AS effectively for another but it will still work.

Here is a “quick list” of what I do and some of the tools I use to make more contacts…

#1 - The phone call

It’s still the best use of my marketing time, phone calls. I advocate a 3 tiered approach

  • Automated “broadcast calls” (I use LeadJumper). I like to make 500 calls a week. I spend about $10 a week to make those 25,000 calls a year.
  • “Hired Gun call” - I use “MyPhoneRoom” to call lists of names for me with live, US based phone calls and transfer. Over a year I’ll pay for about 2,000 of those calls in 4 quarterly  campaigns of 500 calls each
  • When it’s YOUR time - be as efficient as you can with the calls. I use PhoneBurner and the SalesEnvy platform. I get 5 times as many calls and 10 times as many emails in the same about of time most people do (and so can you)

#2 - Direct mail

While it’s the most expensive way I connect with people it’s also the most likely to connect when it’s done right. Again I use 3 methods repetitively…

  • Postcards (I use SendOutCards and Amazing Mail) and I send 100 every month
  • Thank you notes (I use SendOutCards exclusively) and I send a thank you note to every personal contact I have a meeting with (in person or on the phone)
  • Area Mailers - this is a joint venture between the US Postal Service and the United Parcel Service (UPS). I target neighborhoods with this

SIDE NOTE - a targeted list is SO much better than a general list. There are a LOT of good and a few GREAT list brokers. I’ll talk about that in another post.

#3 - Texting

The texting generation is a younger demographic but it’s expanding all the time. I have 70 year old associates that text before they will pick up the phone.

I use the Call Loop and Lead Jumper platforms to “get the text out”. Right now I’m sending around 500 texts a month but I can see that going to 5,000 a month in the not distant future and spending less than $100 a month to do that.

#4 - Email

Even though the “open rates” are down you can’t beat the cost of free broadcast email. I use a 2 programs called MailX and MailJeet. There are a lot of “hoops” to jump through to use email compliantly and I invest a lot of time making sure I”m “legal” but the out of pocket cost of the programs I use is VERY low.

SIDE NOTE - I also use lot’s of tools to make sure my email lists are “clean” and properly “opted in” AND - I’ll talk about that in another post.

#5 -  Social Media

There are 3 parts of social media “mass marketing”

  • Follow/connect with a lot of people
  • Broadcast appropriate valuable content
  • Follow up with connections (and delegate/automate that process as MUCH as possible)

I use several tools. Hootsuite and STAGED are favorites among a half dozen. I’m hiring 123Employee to manage the process (using my tools). LinkedIn is the only platform among the big 6 that use a paid version of.

#6 - Go Guerilla

I’m a fan of the late great Jay Conrad Levinson and believe that there are ALWAYS lower cost ways to get your message out to the masses. For example. I use InCareRX’s free prescription drug card as a give away at a couple hundred doctor’s offices in my hometown. Again - that’s another post but remember there is ALWAYS a low cost way to make connections.

PS - One of the many great prospecting/lead generation tools I use is LeadJumper  - Dan Miller’s company -  I use his platform to generate leads from the internet and market to them. Click here and at least become a free affiliate - Call me and I’ll tell you how I make $150 commission with this platform...
