Mompreneurs - the Mary Kay story

You can have anything in this world you want, if you want it badly enough and you're willing to pay the price” - Mary Kay Ash

Married at 17 and divorced at 27 in 1945, Mary Kay, supporting 3 children, learned to sell to support her family. She sold books door to door while her husband was gone fighting in World War II.

Next she sold Stanley Home products successfully for almost 20 years but when she was passed up for a promotion that was given to a man, she retired at age 45 to write a book telling women how to work for themselves.

That book inspired her to start her own company - Mary Kay Cosmetics with her second husband Mel Ash.

But a month before the company was to “launch” Mel dropped dead of a heart attack!

Don't limit yourself. Many people limit themselves to what they think they can do. You can go as far as your mind lets you. What you believe, remember, you can achieve.” - Mary Kay Ash

Mary Kay started the company anyway at the age of 45 with $5,000 she borrowed from her oldest son in 1963 in Dallas, Texas.

Mary Kay believed in the motto - "God first, family second, career third"

In 1996 Mary Kay had a stroke and at age 78 she turned the management of the company over to her oldest son.

We treat our people like royalty. If you honor and serve the people who work for you, they will honor and serve you” - Mary Kay Ash

At the time of her death 5 years later in 2001 the Mary Kay Cosmetics company was doing business in 37 countries through 800,000 representatives and was selling over $200 million of products per year.

There are so many moms who've made a big mark on the corporate world, balancing family and company life with God’s blessing.

If you are one of them I’m impressed and honored that you’re reading this.

If you are anybody else…

Remember the next mom you talk to who’s looking for a way to put food on the table and make the car payment just might be the next Mary Kay Ash. Get her on your team as soon as you can…

PS - SendOutCards is a great business opportunity for moms or dads (or people that have mom’s or dad”s) If you would like to try the service yourself send a card to someone you love, on me
